need help finding high grade USS for imperial shielding

Hi. I've been searching for Imperial Shielding all day. Haven't found a single one. I've searched more than 5 imperial systems with high populations.
Haven't even found a single high grade signal source.
Has something changed recently?

The spawn rate does seem to be less frequent. I usually go out to about 18,000ly from main star to the signals.

I was looking for mil super caps and improvised components and it took hours to get them, you have to be patient, or lucky.

Cemiess. Fly straight UP after dropping in, to about 1600ls above the star, then run slow circles waiting for HGE spawns. You'll have 30 in a half hour.

Sweet spot is 1500-1800ls, absolutely no need to go that far. :) I do a LOT of HGE farming. :) Some mats are more difficult than others (mil supercaps are one of the harder ones), but you can definitely increase your luck by not going so far out.

System populatoin is the key, higher the better. People say it's economy (go for high tech), this is a red herring, or plaacebo effect. Billions of population is what you need. ;)

Did not have trobules to find these the last time.
1. Imperial system
2. "Deep Space"
3. High population system (billions!)

thanks for the replies guys, I always go at least 500ls from anything
searched 3 more systems then gave up & went home, the last system on the list was a much lower population than the ones before but thought I'd have one last look & found 2 with 8 inside (so now i have 24)
this RNG is infuriation when there are so many hidden variables

Some comments:
- the distance doesn't really matter, it's all about being in 'deep space', as indicated on the left side of your HUD. It's most conveniently found in systems with a single star, i.e. significantly above or below the plane where the planets are located. Binary or trinary systems might make it impossible to locate the 'deep space' section.
- there is a common understanding that the spawn rates increase with the population. Unfortunately, we don't have numbers on exactly how important that is
- the type of material 'high grade' USS spawn is influenced by the status and superpower alignment of the controlling faction. 'Imperial Shielding' can quite obviously be found in Empire systems - the other 'very rare' materials are sometimes not so obvious. Unfortunately, the only excellent 'USS Guide' I know of has been pulled by the author

The rest is RNG. But if you respect the above, I quite reliably find these materials within 30 mins.

I am one of those people that does produce data on this kind of thing, though I haven't done so yet, I can definitely confirm the butt-o-meter says the following...

Interesting you say there is no detailed guidance available, I might make some.

1) The number of stars in the system does not matter or change the method. The distance does matter, because you will get increased chances of other types of USS spawn when you are on the ecliptic plane. Also, below 1000ls from the main star you still get weapons fire detected, convoy dispersal etc, heavily diluting your results. Being in Deep Space AND over 1500ls above the main star, would the more accurate way to state this, just a clarification.
2) I can record some numbers and will. There are two things that assist in HGE spawns, high population and high tech industry, though industrial seems to be pretty good too. Having said that, yes you will sometimes get an agricultural system with 10k population that spits out the occasional HGE, but if you go for industrial or high tech with high populatoin (billions) you can't really go wrong.
3) Good info, yes, it's very important to understand what is LIKELY to spawn given the condition of the system you are in. For example, it's no good being in a Empire system in outbreak if you want imp shielding. While you may get a few, you will get far more Pharmaceutical Isolators. Same with Boom, you'll get more proto heat radiators and proto radiolic alloys. For CDCs (from Fed space) and Imp Shielding (from Imp Space), it is often beneficial to choose a superpower aligned system in the NONE state. This should result in a mixed bag of Imp Shielding and Proprietary composites 9 times out of 10.

Unfortunately, the only excellent 'USS Guide' I know of has been pulled by the author

Fortunately I have made a copy of the essential informations:

High Grade Emissions USS

1. General description

High Grade Emissions is a special USS type where Grade 5 (very rare) materials
can be found. These materials are impossible to obtain via other means. HGEs can
be found only in "SoI"* and "Deep Space" areas. Their spawn and contents depend
on system allegiance and states.
If a particular system can spawn two types of HGE, it will spawn both (for example,
an Imperial system in Outbreak will spawn Imperial Shielding and Pharmaceutical
Isolators). Thus, it's better to choose a system that can spawn only one HGE type
in order to get specific material faster.
*Since 2.2.03. It is still recommended to search for HGEs in Deep Space, however

2. HGE types

Described as follows: "Material" - "Conditions"

Core Dynamics Composites, Proprietary Composites - Federation-aligned system

Imperial Shielding - Empire-aligned system

Improvised Components - System in Civil Unrest state

Military Grade Alloys, Military Supercapacitors - System in War or Civil War state

Pharmaceutical Isolators- System in Outbreak state

Proto Heat Radiators, Proto Light Alloys, Proto Radiolic Alloys - System in Boom state
(Note: Proto Light Alloys can also be obtained by killing high-ranked combat ships)

Thanks for that, good to know what I need to improve on. I may well do a materials guide soon, including detailed tips for all methods (HGEs, CZ farming, prospecting, even efficient base runs, all with vid! :) )

I've been finding that it seems to depend on the "shape" of the system as well.
Large systems with faraway stars/bodies have a different "deep space area" than smaller, simpler ones, so it stands to reason the USSs might behave differently too.
I've often found HGEs as close as 200ls from the main star in compact systems.

My new routine is to play based on system shape; compact systems will have me circling more closely at first, while I'll head out to the furthest point immediately in larger ones.
If I find an HGE, I'll try to stay within roughly the same distance from the main star for a bit afterwards.
I can sometimes get several HGE spawns this way, or I'll find repeats later at a similar distance.

I also don't tend to hang around long if I don't get some USS spawns fairly quickly.
Lots of systems out there.
