Need help with DK2

Need your help chaps and chapesses.

For a while my DK2 is malfunctioning. When in E:D, the camera will jump back a metre or two for a split second then return. This will happen every few seconds. I've replaced the sync cables with these. I'm running the DK2 and camera on dedicated USB 3.0 card (recommended by PL, can't find a link). All cores are unparked and I'm still using runtime 0.6.

So, thoughts on what can be causing the issues? If using a 60hz monitor (don't think mine can run @ 75hz) can I bump up to 0.8 and use steamVR?

Your help is appreciated.

First thing to try is change USB ports. No need for 75Hz monitor anymore with latest steamvr

I should have said, it was running on a powered USB 3 hub before. Ports have already changed (onto the PCI-E Card)

So what is the set up process with SteamVR & the DK2? Install and go?

Install Oculus SDK .8 - calibrate

Install Steam
Enable Steam beta participation in settings/accounts
Go to library tools
Find and instal SteamVR (Beta) - Calibrate by starting SteamVR and using their configuration widget.

Once done, you can close (and shut down) all related Steam (SteamVR and Steam program).

Fire up Elite (either 64 bits version)

Go to option, graphics and select one of the HMD mode in 3D settings

Play.

Hmm this is what I feared, it's locked to 60hz. Do I need to set up a custom res or have I missed something?

Edit SteamVR was running. Much better. Thanks!

Definite good and bad here :(

The jumping camera has gone but, there's a definite performance hit, with it seeming to now struggle to fulfil a stable 75fps on low settings ( I would be smooth on high before - hee hee)

Supercruising in LHS 3447's Mobius was unplayable @ 30 fps, switching to solo was a little better, stations are a juddery mess too.

If this is the performance reality now, then so be it, I'll have to bench VR until the summer range of cards are released, but if anyone else has any tips/tweaks they are appreciated.

Thanks for the help so far.

A 970 (I assume your sig is still correct) isn't going to be able to push VR at low settings with a consistent 75fps. Changing your resolution (on primary in the graphics menu) to 640x480, fullscreen and setting refresh just below it to 75hz will help performance a bit. Also, disable shader cache in nVidia control panel, reading from HDD for shader cache can cause performance issues. Manually adjust ALL graphics setting to the lowest possible, not all settings are at their lowest when choosing the "low" option. Until/IF FD supports the Oculus all our performance is suffering because we have to play through SteamVR.

I had issues with my first DK2 and got it replaced for free. I've seen a few on here that had issues with theirs too, might explain the jumping but, I think your real issue is your GPU. Hope this helps.
