Need validation on this Asp Explorer set up

http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/04D4D5A4D4D5D5C----------3ef50k--2i2f.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==?bn=Dullahan

Ive been making progress on outfitting this Asp for about a week now.
The only thing Im missing now is the FSD, Fuel Scoop, and AFMU.
What Im asking is, should I fill up the other two available slots with AFMUs, or not?
Ive never been on an actual exploration mission, only pinged a few systems during travel from LHS 3447 to Lidpar and back.
Open to thoughts and criticism on my build.

Here is the build reworked. I am not sure how you are budget wise. I tried to skimp in some areas to make up the cost of additions. If you have the extra credits, i woukd upgrade AFMUs & Fuel Scoop to 'B' rated.

If credits are a bit off an issue, here is a cheaper ship and setup. A DBX has less than a lightyear difference in max jump range.

Thank you.
Im still kinda new to this game, certainly new to this exploration business.
I hadnt even thought about heatsink and chaff launchers as being applicable.
And Ive gotta make all the credits for this anyway, the bulk is pretty much done. Just gotta grind out that last little bit of credits

It's been said before many times, but make sure you have enough credits in the bank to buy back your ship if you lose it. You don't want to be back at Trevithick Dock in a Sidewinder with no cash.

You have a good set up. One thing that will help you out immensely is to A rate your power plant. You have a light enough build that you can put a 2A on your ship. The A rated power plants dissipate heat better then the lower classes, making fuel scooping that much easier, in addition the 2A power plant is lighter than the one you have, so it will help out with fuel consumption and jump range. Also, downgrade your distributor, you can put a 3A on there, making your ship lighter.

Don’t forget to slap a cargo rack on there, you might find exploration data wreckage out there to scoop up, I found two on my last jump out, and that was a 2k Ly trip over the course of a week.

Also, the fuel tank is optional, and can save some weight, that’s your call. Jump remember if you plot your route in economical mode rather than fastest you can increase your range by 3 to 4 times (ie your jump range is 300 ly, in economical mode you can jump 900 ly)

As far as the AMFU, it depends on how long you are going to be out, how far you plan on going, and how good a piolet you are. Being out a week, I came back with all my modules at 100% and was wondering what I brought the AMFU along for.

Here is my asp build:

You can down grade the fuel scoop and the AMFU to get in budget if you need to.

A 3A is heavier than a 4D. Granted it is by like a ton or so. I do agree with your statement about the powerplant. He definately needs to downgrade to a class 2, A rated, powerplant.

I enjoy being different :D so for another view and less than 17mill Cr. you can have this Asp which if you run with 3/4 tank of fuel can get 34Ly which was more than good enough to get me to the Crab Nebula and also gives you some leeway if you hit a patch of non-scoopable stars, run at 1/4 of a tank and you're closer to 36Ly. You could probably get away with dropping the Power Plant and Power Distributor down by 1 class each, but for the tiny benefit you'd get on Jump Range I really don't think it's worth it.

I also don't go unarmed, just because you never know, especially with Horizons on the... well... horizon. Once I was over 5,000Ly from colonised space, dropped out of SC to take some photos and then as I was lining one up something dropped into normal space with me  I still to this day don't know what it was, as the game crashed just after it jumped in...

Your running a 3D shield gen anyways. Wouldn't mmake a bit of difference. Just put it in your 3 slot and put the cargo rack in your 5 slot.

you really don't need that extra fueltank. with an standard Asp fueltank you will not run out of fuel, and the additional fueltank slows you down, because plotted jumprange goes down. i run my Asp with a reduced fueltanksize of 24T (full 4,8 jumps), no problem - but that's not for everybody.

made a variant of your build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/02A4D...2f.AwRj49S6yA==.Aw18WQ==?bn=Dullahan_revisted - less than 300 k to invest.

if it is your first trip, read ozymandius excellent thread - and do a short trip first, you never know whether you like exploration at all. tip: go to the eskimo nebula. most spectacuular, black hole included.

Thank you. Having a spare tire is definately a personal choice. I usually shoot for a 30LY jump range. only because the nav computer rarely plots over 30. I enjoy having the spare tire. But, my reasons are my own. I use it to be able to push harder for longer without refuel. I tend to ignore brown dwarf fields because of it. I just blow thru them without a second thought. It all boils down to personal preference. If someone never plans to travel to the fringes of the galaxy, they have no need for a 30+ Lightyear jump range. Actually having a lower jump range may help as they will hit the systems most explorers just jump over.

Oops. I misunderstood and thought you meant to get rid of the shields entirely. You have a valid point.
(I figure chaff & heatsinks would help me avoid being hit too much while I wait for the FSD countdown)

It is all good. I no longer use shields in my exploration builds. My "home" is very near the edge of occupied space. I am allied with every faction in my "home" system. Just in case it changes hands while i'm gone exploring. I just detour around occupied space until i'm close to home then make a mad dash the last few hundred light years.

Edit: also worth noting, never fight an interdiction. Always submit. 1) you won't take damage 2) you won't enter "normal" space tumbling and 3) your FSD cooldowns much quicker. You can be off and running before the aggressor can even get their bearings. Depending on speed differences the only amount of time they should get to shoot at you is while your FSD is spooling up to jump.

This is my build, it's based on Ozy's recommendation with a tweak here and there.
I feel very comfortable with this build since I tend to explore more in the direction of the outer rims and I have enough fuel to get through fields of unscoopables easily.

Cheers.

you don't need that 3 heatsinks. 1 (or 2) is enough.

you can run that build with a class 2A powerplant, which runs cooler and saves weight. i'd go for a 3D powerdistributor, because the 4D doesn't give you any real advantages (you'd need a 4A for constant boost).

you have a total range of 430+ ly (13 jumps!)... no field of unscoopables is that large. the largest ones are around 100 ly thick/thin, e.g. 3 jumps in an Asp. but if it makes you feel safe, that's good!

enjoy your trip :)
