General / Off-Topic Netflix' Lost In Space Reboot....

I've always liked the idea of the show far more than I ever did the actual show. It's always been a little too campy, for me even as a kid. I haven't seen any of the promo material but now is the golden era of Sci-Fi, with things like Expanse, ST: Discovery, Altered Carbon, Electric Dreams, etc (we have it good right now) which makes me think a contemporary take on Lost in Space may be a promising idea...

As far as I know (last time I checked) we here in the US do not have access to ST Discovery yet. I can't even find out "when" we'll get it.

If you mean when will it be on Netflix in the States - it won't. You have to buy CBS All Access to watch it here. CBS wants to push their streaming service. Why the rest of the planet gets to watch it on Netflix I have no idea.

Reboots are generally ok, especially if it's been a really long time since the original.

The original lost in space TV show is basically unwatchable for some. It's out dated and pure cringe.
Even the more recent movie is now dated. I just tried to find it on Netflix. But alas. Not on there. Lol

So a reboot on that is basically fine.

Some things also work better as shows, rather than movies, and visa versa, so remaking them in to shows/movies is also ok.

However, movies like Spiderman.. Sheesh. Lol

3 reboots in my lifetime, and one not long before I was born. Too many!

"
unwatchable for some." who are they? Its still gets shown on tv. There are plenty of shows I am not watching right now.

The Tomorrow people got remade recently . Just demonstrates how advanced in concept were the UK kids shows of the 70s.

Oh well ... I don't see that happening on my end ... tired of being nickeled & dimed to death ... I'll give it a year or two and then watch it ... maybe

If it's on American syndicated television, that's the first clue that it's simply not worth your time to watch. The writing is so bad in general that it makes the back of a cereal box seem artistic in comparison.

*sigh* ... TV execs - "We need new ideas for a tv show" ... "Doesn't anyone have anything?" ... "Ok, what's not been done in a while?" ... "There hasn't been a Lost In Space film for a while, and the TV show was in the sixties" ... "GREAT IDEA!" ... "Uh, I have an original idea for a show" ... "Too late, we're going with a Lost In Space reboot"

If it's not a sequel and not a reboot, they can't think of anything.

99.9999% of books, films, music and theater plays are reboots anyway, they just replace the names. After a couple thousands years humanity basically has told every story that needs to be told. We're just shuffling themes now.

I take it you're referring to Elite Dangerous and not taking into consideration that I came to this forum before Elite Dangerous was a thing, and also have no idea whether I came to this forum for Frontier First Encounters, Frontier Elite II, the DD3D remakes, the original Elite game, Rollercoaster Tycoon III, The Outsider, Lostwinds or even the Wallace and Gromit games.

So you didn't purchase a copy of Elite: Dangerous (sequel) FFE (sequel) FE:II (sequel), Rollercoaster Tycoon III (sequel) or download the DD3D remake (remake), all of which you hold in high regard despite them 'scraping the barrel' as it were when it comes to originality?

As to the original topic. Trailer doesnt give much away, but the cast looks like solid choices all round. Will wait to see how it plays out.

...and the movie from the 90s was bad.
You take that back!

Seriously though, I loved the 90’s movie, since I was a little kid at the time. I still have all the toys, buried in a storage tub somewhere. I can see why classic fans wouldn’t like it, though.

My mom got me the whole original series on VHS before the movie came out, but I think I only got through half of it. Enough to beg for a Jupiter 2 model for Christmas.

I’m hoping that the new one is better than Star Trek Discovery (otherwise known as No Star Trek At All).

lol. The movie was forgettable imho. :) I'm not even a 'fan' per se of the original. heh.

As I've said, I really like the concept, though. I think it could be done well and that's why I'm looking forward to the Netflix reboot.

And as for Star Trek Discovery - well I thought I'd hate that one, and I actually enjoyed it. heh heh. Maybe my standards are just low for these reboots. If so, I'll probably love Lost in Space. heh.
