That's a bit drastic! Surely all you have to do is move house after every play of the game.
I have some bad news for you:
- Your operating system is full of holes.
- The applications you use are full of holes.
- Your router and/or firewall is full of holes, some deliberately installed ones have been discovered in recent years.
- Your hardware may well have holes, usually described as "oh yeah, that was to facilitate testing and the engineers forgot to remove it".
Basically, there is no such thing as a "secure" networked computer. There is no such thing as a "secure" OS. And your government is, in all probability, just as bad if not worse than the Chinese. If they aren't, it's only because they lack the means and/or $$$ to be as bad. That's the truth.
You life in the year 2017, you play online games, got a forum account for at least one of those games and you want to tell me that you dont want anyone (or China) to track you or your online activities or even get access to the data on your TO THE INTERNET CONNECTED computer?
If you are worried about your personal data on the internet and you dont have a Military Grade Supercomputer with its own operating system I suggest that you unplug your internet get rid of any modern to the internet connectable device in you daily live and do your business with these:

if you are playing elite on a computer which also has a lot of work uses as in SECRET COMMERCIAL DESIGNS FOR SECRET TECH... then YOU are in deep trouble with your company. if anything is compromised its down to YOU not china. you should NOT be playing elite or ANY game that needs a net connection on ANYTHING that sensitive.
chinese hackers are mostly military. they are mostly after military and commercial stuff - so chinese factories can make knock off copies of copyrighted latest tech stuff to sell domestically. such as stealing the design of a new phone apple or someone was working on and making a fake version. they do it with cars all the time.
russian hackers are more political in that they do target the political side more. china wants to gain commercial and military advantage. russian hackers are... sort of patriotic. they do what they think the govt (putin) wants with some prodding from the federal russian security service - but they also want money. they like to run botnets and mine bitcoins and ransomware.
western hackers tend to be amateurs - obnoxious little teens. if you want to know they type just look at the gankers in elite. SDC for example - unable to understand anyone or empathise except people like themselves. the kind that ruin little kids christmas day by DDoSing the game companies so the kids cant use their christmas present games consoles. selfish and self centred and arrogant.
north korean ones are the most tightly controlled. they attack anything and anyone with arrogant impunity (they think). having no idea how the real world really works, they do things that their govt tell them will be for the good of the party and state - whether its trying to prevent other people in other nations seeing a movie from hollywood that the glorious leader doesnt want anyone to see, or lately trying to alleviate the sanctions by trying to steal money via ransomware attacks.
i could go on and on. i know a hell of a lot more than you. which is why i am not concerned except at what YOU might be doing that endangers whoever you are working for. if they WERE after intelligence, you have just suggested you have such information on a computer connected to the internet which you play games on - which is someplace it probably should not be under the law of your country.

i'd say 90% of "hackers" are just idiots who buy a program(s) to "hack" - fake. Botnet users usually.
8% are script kiddies that just trick you to doing the damage yourself. - script kiddies / malware peddlers
1% are the developers of the botnets and programs used by the above. - worms writers, malware authors,
1% are developers who write viruses that self propagate, finding remote exploits and writing the code that uses them for good and bad. - real hackers
Nobody is using elite as a vector to hack you. If anyone is going to be using elite for any sort of nefarious purposes why would you need to look anywhere outside of the UK? They'd be the first to be monitoring that data and combing all the chat text under the label of national security.

Major password/credit card leaks seem like a bigger concern for big game companies in general. I trust Frontier don't store everything in plain text... right? right?!
This is silly. Investing in FD doesn't give them access to the source code, and there's nothing to gain by doing so. Hackers get access to networks mainly through spear-phishing email accounts, no need for some kind of corporate conspiracy.
The irony, of course, is that your computer and network gear are full of parts made in China. Worry about that.
