Neutron Boost and FSD Injection, or just one or the other?

I'm assuming, you can't do a 100% FSD boost with materials, then supercharge with a neutron star for WTFBBQ jump distances?

I'm currently plodding along with a deep space passenger mission, and was curious for the next one I take.

(using Neutrons as much as I can).

Along those lines, it looks like you lose 1% of FSD health each time you supercharge, what is the theoretical damage level where the FSD won't work, or will malfunction? I've got an AFMU on the ship, but I'm just curious, if I should say, run out of AFMU ammo before I get back (which is possible with 17000ly to go)

Only one works at a time, sadly. As for the FSD damage, once it reaches a certain level (I think 70 or 80%) it starts to malfunction, and when that happens it'll drop you out of supercruise and cause damage. I know you can make it to at least the Lagoon Nebula doing neutron boosts every 500 or so LY without needing to repair. If you run out of AFMU ammo, you can always make more from the Synthesis menu.

No you can't. If you do both, the larger one only takes effect. With a neutron star that will win over materials boost as it gives you a 300% boost.
White Dwarf's give you 50% boost so a 100% mat boost would supercede that.

I wouldn't go under 80% integrity on my FSD.

Thanks all. I had a hunch it would be too good to be true to be able to use both...

As for running out of AFMU ammo, I'm screwed. I didn't even think about it before setting out, thus, I have none. If I run out and/or the FSD health gets too close to 80-ish for my liking, I'll just have to finish the trip home without Neutrons (gag). AFMU ammo: lesson learned after my first legitimate haul.

Honestly, I don't think I'll do too many more of the 10k+ missions. I'll just throw a second AFMU module on the ship and stick to <10k missions, maybe even limiting them to under 6000. I saw one for 108M, that was 36000 ly.... I could make 108 million in a CZ/massacre stack in 30 minutes, if that's what I was going for.

This was just a trial run, having never done one of these before. It's a nice break from pew pew anyway.

Side note about this mission, the planet I had to go to was 2.75G, which I didn't notice right away. Had I not noticed after another 2-3 seconds, my "oh S88T" boost to spare from impact wouldn't have worked. I'd likely have just binned the game after that, having spent 7-8 hours jumping/staring at warp screens, just to deliver a crated at the destination.

You can make more AFMU ammo on the fly. Access the synthesis menu, the same one where you make FSD injections.

Yeah, but, in my case, I don't have any of the required materials, which I didn't think about stocking up on before setting out.

:)

If ye have an SRV, yer good to go...if not yer onto plan B...yer not gonna like plan B.

Been a while since I tried the neutrons, but I always thought it was one or the other. Bad news being that jumponium jumps are better fer yer ships health as yer finding out now ^

Neutron Stars are quite fun though. They went from being this feared little tiny dot with a huge radius for ship dropout and easy death if you don't pay attention, to beautiful spinning things that boost your FSD (and give you a great idea of the kill / dropout area thanks to their jet cones making them highly noticeable).
