Neutron Jumping

I know I'm late to this particular party, but I have embarked on a journey to Beagle point and decided to look into neutron star jumping to get a head start. Of course I've read how to do this, but having never done it before there was some serious clenching going on when I arrived at the first one. Having never watched a vid on this, only reading instructions, I felt like a pioneer being the first to try something only proposed in theory.

Well, after positioning Icarus (exploration Annie) and supercharging, I ended up with a hearty 193ly jump range. I don't have a basis for comparison, but I have not had a charge less than 190 for each subsequent FSD charge. And it is still quite exhilarating. Once your in the "funnel" it almost feels like you're being pulled backwards into the star. I've never propelled so far from the bubble so quick. Once I start reaching unexplored space I'll start exploring proper but I plan to hit the neutron sea to build some wicked credits.

Nice one! [up]

As a PS4 johnny-come-lately I have watched videos and read about it, and I STILL don't really get it, or how to do it, its very much something I want to try when I get hold of Elite Dangerous, any tips are always totally welcome! :)

Exactly how I did it. Actually feels like a dangerous maneuver rather than drifting around in SC. And the plotter had been quite groovy as well. I used to it go the first 1000ly but now am going to use it more as a reference to find neutrons when I want a boost.

Best advice I can give is enter the "cone" as far from the star as possible. If you get too close, we'll just use your imagination. It doesn't appear to matter where you enter. Heck at one point I almost screwed up and was in the very end of the cone and throttled zero and just sat there and that did the charge. Not as epic but safe and worked haha

I've done a fair amount of Neutron Jumps, and it's always fun. Not really much of a time saver, since you need to plot your jumps one at a time, but fun anyway. I get 170ish Ly per jump on both my Annie and my AspX. I manage 5 long jumps and one short fueling jump per set, each set being nearly 1000Lys. As stated earlier, enter near middle to end of the cone, and hang on. Re-enter the cone if you don't get a charge on the first try, each try appears to be cumulative.

My trip plan is to make my way to Colonia as I've never been there. I may transfer a ship or two there and hang for a bit while I prepare the leg to Beagle point. On the way I'm going to hit those massive neutron fields I hear so much about. I may also hang around the core and try to bank some ELWs. Then I'll make my way to the Point. Same plan return trip.

Neutron jumping will help for when I want to cover some large distance quickly, or just feel like having fun hehe.

How are you still alive? :D

I'm not. This post is coming to you from my gravitationally crushed Python after a 7 minute powerless fall into the star.

I should have made a video, it was seriously my most entertaining death to date. The whole ship was spinning out of control, life support was counting down, modules kept turning on and off on their own.. I chose to self destruct with like a minute of oxygen left.. That started a 30 second timer which still had 10 seconds left on it when I was crushed.

I may take a throw away ship just to see this! That is so Metal!

I've done it a few weeks ago in a Sidey, just for the experience. Tons of fun.

My first death was in my cutter that one really hurt I thought hell yeah fsd boost this is easy needless to say lesson learned

Ouch. It does look easy in paper, but once you get into it the first time things start going down. I've done well with it so far, have covered a lot of ground. Now I will explore proper. Gotta find me some fun sights.
