Never thought I would say this but..... I am thinking I may not order CV1 after all.

I see Oculus have released more info about their Crescent bay prototype.

much like the valve/HTC offering crescent bay also uses 2 separate screens.

I must admit, so long as it works then... what ever.... but I suspect 1 screen solved many issues. No worries about slight differences in brightness / colour reproduction differences between screens, not issues having to sync both screens perfectly, and then of course, the price and double the points of failure.

still, oculus know what they are doing, and, on the bright side it sounds like tech wise both units under the hood outside of their tracking tech, may actaully be very similar, which I guess can only be a good thing for increasing our chances of multi HMDF support in all titles.

I am glad I have my DK2 however. I can make do until both HMDs are our and make an informed choice.

if I didnt have my DK2 there is no way I would resist just jumping on the 1st one which came out

There's not much I disagree with that Mike, :D

With the FB purchase their "vision" was heavily changed even thought htey said the opposite.
Oculus never wanted to release a product every citizen of the world should buy, they wanted to make a great gaming VR experience.

Now Facebook runs Oculus and they did not invest billions to earn a few million USD in sales for gamers, they want to keep Facebook the largest and #1 social network.
This means the focus oft Oculus is not gaming anymore, it's social interaction now.

They won't agree on it because it's a "second betrayal" of their kickstarter bakers who actually made the company possible.
However you can also read between the lines.
Their focus shifted to Audio and Input instead of a gaming VR experience.

Their latest prototype mid last year was actually "CV1".
If Oculus leadership had not changed to Facebook you would likely already have your hardware on the way.
Now I would more likely expect it late 2016 and before that happens other VR hardware will come in which is gaming focused.

Regarding compatibility, I think it will not take long until someone writes wrappers that make them compatible.
If the other VRs also use network services it would be possible without too much hacking.

Source? Sounds like a lot of speculative hot air to me. I have seen every oculus interview I can get my eyes on, and i didn't see anything that led this direction.

....

I find it funny that people don't think a company can focus on two things at once. Facebook buying Oculus Rift, meant that they could release multiple versions since they have the resources to devote to all the different branches this could take. In the same way that a company like Thrustmaster can release gamepads and HOTAS Warthog systems, so can Oculus Rift.

Oculus will team up with microsoft and make an xbox version of the Rift to go along with the release of ED on the xbox. Microsoft is afraid that if valve and htc succeed, gamers will buy a steam gaming box (which runs linux) and dump windows.

Meanwhile, while all of the phone screen in your face vr companies compete for top dog, CastAR will quietly make inroads into the average home :)

Remind me, do the Rosicrucians and the Bavarian Illuminati then develop the middleware stack, or was that just a scientologist plot? :)
