- Maximum cargo capacity 2500 tons/units. Fuel capacity 256 tons/units Cargo breakdown: C9-1, C8-4, C7-4, C6-4, C5-3, C4-4, C3-3, C23, C1-2. Maximum ship's- Owners choice. Ship cost: Large Ship requires 1 each of C9 C8. Medium ship requires 1 each of C7. Small ship requires 1 each of C6. C5 and4 are designated for Fighters. 1) Only Owners ships can dock at carrier. 2)Refuel / Repair / Re-arm. 3) Cartographics (Optional). Now the fun part. 1) Ship can not dock. 2) Ship must Load / Unload using its own ships. 3) Ship must Refuel using its own ships. 4) Ship will use standard fuel. 5) Ship will jump like other ships. 6) Ship can be destroyed. This would be an option to the long jump times of the current carriers and adding even a small carrier under the current system would just pro-long it more. The plus point to this is the ship can be setup by the pilot to Explore, Trade and Mining.
This would be a
Very large ship (cannot dock inside a station). Can be setup for exploration, trading, mining = means it could be the biggest freighter.
I also want a
Very large ship (VLS) class to be added. It's a smaller option than a Fleet Carrier and the VLS is directly pilotable by the player. The downside would be that you must manually move cargo to a station or outpost to sell / buy stuff. Repairs and fuel also costs more.
The ship inside a VLS Carrier could be small only (not medium or large) + SLF (fighter bay).
Why though? There's no reason for this ship to exist.
The reasons are because people want:
- A bigger class than Large. This would be a Very Large ship.
- A baby capital ship that is directly pilotable or via orders (not an unmovable brick like the Drake Fleet Carrier).
- Can land on a planet surface
- Can carry a small ship + fighter bay (SLFs)
- The VLS design can be more innovative, because it's not limited by the landing pad size or the access corridor (mailslot).
- Enables Fdev to sell a new line of Very Large Ships for ARX.
This would mean ships within a ship. This is apparently something the code would have severe problem with; which is why the Anaconda can't hold a Sidewinder.
And while it probably wouldnt solve everything, a "lesser" carrier may be less draining for the servers.
Where did Fdev say that the game cannot handle ships within ships?
