New COVAS voice pack on the store (so new voice packs are going to be store items then)

I will be buying the voicepack(s) from Frontier directly, as the money will go to them and fund the on-going development costs of the game. I think that's pretty cool.
You mean "will fund investor profits and other shovelware projects unrelated to Elite"

Not that I'm one to talk against the cash shop - I've bought paint jobs and ship kits for well over hundred bucks so far - even though you literally NEVER see any of that while you're playing the game... You're flying a cockpit, and the paint jobs don't even alter the color of your cockpit dashboard...

At any rate, I'd stay away from presuming that the money goes to what you wish it would...

What voicepacks i would like:
- HAL9000 (obviously)
- Chewie/R2, those come with custom translation in the info/comms panel (R2 obviously has to be rude and will mock you from time to time)
- Morgan Freeman
- GladOs
and some more
It would be awesome if they would incorporate voice commands somehow into the game - real bummer cause I play on PS4 and it would add to immersion.
Also I really wish they would add "Jumping" after fsd countdown

Morgan Freeman has a good voice and intonation, but he's an illuminati stooge, so no, I don't want to hear him.

Chewie is an interesting idea, but that would start to annoy me after less than an hour.

- I'd like the voice of River from Firefly for my cockpit though...
- And a pack by Euan Morton, the voice actor who did the Sith Inquisitor voice for Star Wars The Old Republic.
- And a girl with a tongue piercing lisp.

I had more than enough of "professional" sounding but cold, reserved and ultimately soulless airport announcer style voice packs:
They shall get off my ship by walking the plank...

I'm not British, so the stiff upper lip thing doesn't do it for me.

And the sound processing FD used to make it sound computerized is pretty horrible... it just sounds muddy and over processed. It was certainly NOT done by studio professionals, but on some dev's computer, who's main job and education has nothing to do with sound.

No. Please, don't spoil my fantasy shipmate.

Getting warmer.

But this is who speaks to me on those long nights away in the Black.

.....do I need to point out it's neither Jim nor Charlie :D

They can usually be found hanging out in the Chujohimba system.

Verity is still in place for all my utility ships, I'm so used to the voice it's hard to give it up completely.

Celeste went into my combat ship, since it's my "Alliance" ship. That superpower comes off as the Space European Union, so the accent fits.

Victor went into my SRVs. The voice kind of feels like it belongs to a scrappy little space rover.

I've got Celeste from HCS and Celeste in game.

Currently I can't tell you how well they gel together in terms of potentially talking over one another, the commands they use or quite how similar they are vocally as I'm having issues importing the new Singularity pack into Voice Attack. However, having played today with Celeste as my ship's voice from Livery I think they may have adjusted the sound slightly to make it sound a little more computer-like. That's purely anecdotal evidence clearly but I'd be intrigued to hear them running alongside one another.

I did wonder if part of the agreement between HCS and FD was that there would be some level of change to keep a degree of originality....no idea.

If they have, that's a shame, I bought it on the strength of the HCS samples for that voice pack. What I've actually got doesn't sound much like it at all.

Colonia, Beagle Point, Formadine Rift, nah. Bergerac Horizons goes to the top of my list of Bucket List destinations. I can only hope Diamanté Lil is there to pour me a drink at her end of the universe bar ‘The Royal Barge’.....oh the 80s’

Well, you’ll not see three finer examples should a choice need to be made.

Perhaps I’m overplaying the whole Bergerac thing....for non Brit’s (or Channel Islanders) I can only apologise for any confusion

Having now got all of my HCS packs/ Singularity profile working.....yep, ED’s Celeste and HCS Celeste are simply not the same. I’ve turned off my ships computer and just using HCS now....though a five pound donation to FD isn’t too much of an issue and if you don’t compare the two, having choice is always beneficial.

Can someone tell me if Celeste makes sense without voice attack? I don't like the idea of sitting in my room and talking to my computer, or doing so while being in discord with friends, but I'd like a new voice. Celeste will still offer me information on certain things like counting bounties or stuff, won't she?

The Celeste voice on the Frontier store is just a replacement for the default "Verity" voice that says things like "Fuel scooping" and "Frameshift drive charging". No need for Voice Attack but nor will she offer you any information on bounties or stuff like that.

But in some videos by HCS the voice packs give information about systems and stuff, so that's not it?

OK apologies as I may have jumped into the middle of a conversation here. The Celeste COVAS voice that's available on the Frontier store has nothing to do with what's being demonstrated by HCS. Although Frontier are working with HCS (sharing voice acting perhaps - not entirely sure how that relationship works) the voices they're suppling are straight up replacements for the default in-game "Verity" voice (again, nothing to do with HCS).

Separate to what Frontier are doing, HCS supply voice packs designed to work alongside Voice Attack. Voice attack is a game input/output scripting language which supports (but is not exclusive to) voice recognition (i.e. you can also use it to define non-voice activated inputs). Various plugins (e.g. EDDI and ED Toolbox) work with VA to support a wide variety of additional game info which can be spoken back to you via either specific VA inputs or else via events in the ED API log file (for example, you can set things up so that when you jump into a new system, information about that system is read out to you in one of a variety of different voices).

Sorry ... it's complicated (but I hope that kinda answers your question).

ah okay, I understand it. So if i want these additional informations but not want to speak with it, I need to (only) get Celeste in the frontier store, voice attack and EDDI/ED Toolbox? And the stuff HCS offers are just presets for voice attack, so I don't have to figure out what the voice could answer and do for me myself?

Not sure you even need Celeste actually - can someone who uses EDDI give a better answer?

Personally I use "ED Toolbox". This is a fairly old website utility you install on your PC which reads the ED log files (and some other stuff from the internet) to get information about my current system. It also pulls in the recent Galnet news articles from somewhere (this was before Frontier built Galnet Audio into the game). What I then do is use Voice Attack (via some keyboard bindings - like you I don't really want to have to speak to my computer) to interface with ED Toolbox so that, at the press of various keys, I can have it read out to me information about my current system and also read out Galnet news articles. I'm fairly sure EDDI supercedes this and does far more besides but I've not got around to installing it - plus I like ED Toolbox, it's rude about the Feds and can also give me random useless facts! :p

Okay, thanks for the answers :) my last question now is, do i need the full version of voice attack to use plugins like EDDI or is the demo version enough? Does, with EDDI or other overhauls, information of a system count as seperately? I mean, the lite version offers 20 commands. Do i need only 1 command for these overhauls to give information for every system oder do i need an extra "slot" for every single one?

Probably best to ask that over in the EDDI thread ..

I use EDDI without VA. Can be run with or without.

I love Celeste's voice, but the price is a bit too much for me. That said, if they enlist celebrities, I want Tony Shaloub as Tech Sgt. Chen. Come on, think about it: In the heat of battle you'd hear "Hey, uh, the uh, power plant is offline, and your shields are down. Just, you know, FYI."
