Hardware & Technical New CPU cooler

I got a Scythe Kotetsu a few weeks ago, and couldn't be happier. It's very quiet and keeps my i5-4570S at ~65C with prime95. The stock cooler couldn't handle prime95 for more than 10 minutes - the CPU started dropping the clock speed to avoid overheating while sounding like a vacuum cleaner.

I've only replaced a CPU cooler once.

The one I installed has a fan, a cooling grill and looks good. The temps are well under control

But, the MB is mounted vertically. I found the plastic plugs with which I had to install the cooler, inadequate. It did fall off a few times.

I solved it using metal screws and insulators. But it was tricky and I needed to be careful not to over tighten and burst through the board.

Suggesting you look carefully at the mountings provided. The best cooler is not a lot of use if it falls off.

Yeah, weight is a factor - the TX3 is 380g (push-pin mount), and the 212 is 570g (backplate mount).
Looks like the 212 is worth the extra cash - I'll have to check its height, but it should fit okay.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 series of coolers has been on MaximumPC Magazine's "Best of the Best" list (Best Budget Cooler) for nearly two years, it must be pretty awesome for it to remain unchallenged for that long.
