New Englanders Planet Zoo Chat

I live in Vermont for the record. Weather has been unbelievably random, snowy, some warm days, rainy days, etc.
the reason I said it like that above: I’d figure outdoor habitats for reptiles albeit seasonal habitats suggests the staff likely keep their habitat reptiles indoors or behind the scenes until temperatures become tolerable.

riverside reptiles was certainly a nice place
Il share pics when I get back to my computer
Got to see a few of our reptiles in person, but I learned somethings such as
1. Alligator snapping turtles can totally be an exhbit animal
2. Gilla monsters can have 4 per exhibit
3. Dwarf caimans don’t need the same space as in game
4. Asian water monitor do fine in smaller spaces
5. Rhino iguanas can work as a habitat animal, they don’t climb out because the temperature is comfortable

I just found out that Franklin Park is in the process of acquiring clouded leopard(s)! I have never seen one before; I'm so excited! I'm planning a trip in the next week or so, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the gray kangaroos, nyalas, and painted dogs as they weren't there during my last visit.

I was just there yesterday, they’ve started construction renovating the old ocelot habitat to better accommodate clouded leopards. There was also some maintenance around the entrance of the tropical building.

Thanks for the photos! They are my favorite felid species, so I'm really excited they're coming! I can't wait to see the finished exhibit!
Not from New England (the South is taking over, bwa ha ha haaa), but we have some clouded leopards at my hometown zoo, and they're much smaller than you'd expect. Like, I think my dog is bigger than they are

Roger Williams theory holds up

We have Alpaca, Donkey, Chicken, Goat, sheep and pig.
We used to have cow as well.

We won
You mean I could finally get a collection of half decent birds and monkeys? Splendid. Count me in.

Unironically Roger Williams would have the perfect collection for a potential “flying birds pack”
  1. Bald eagle
  2. Golden eagle
  3. Kookaburra
  4. Hyacinth macaw
  5. Scarlet ibis
  6. Keel billed toucan
  7. Wrinkled hornbill
  8. King vulture
  9. Turkey vulture
  10. Bali mynah
  11. Common raven
  12. Barn owl

Well considering @USzoofan42 brought it up I am more than happy to remind everyone this thread exists.

Considering I haven’t heard from @Orkan for awhile I guess I can try to revise the thread a bit. (If anyone knows where he is I would like to hear it).

The Mystic Aquarium was gaining social media traction from rescuing a baby grey seal! It was super cute, and I was happy to see people on TikTok recognize that some zoos and aquariums do good!

In other news, Buttonwood park zoo lost one of their beloved Asian elephants. While sad, she lived a good life and was a rescued former circus animal! If I remember right when the elephants pass they want to replace them with Indian elephants. In also even more tragic news, Buttonwood also lost a seal to the bird flu :(

As I’m sure it was brought up before, both Roger Williams and Franklin Park Zoo intend to get penguins! If I remember right Franklin is getting African penguins and Roger Williams Humboldt penguins.

As of last year Franklin Park Zoo lost one of their gorillas, died at 38 years. They also celebrated another gorillas birthday much more recently!

The New England Aquarium has recently sent hundreds of fish to other locations, in a program to breed smallmouth grunt and improve aquaculture. The idea being this would take pressure off the ocean.

As of now this is all the news I could remember and find! If anyone has anything to add feel free to!
