Is there any reason why we need to "buy" them in the store instead of just having them unlocked in the the game by default?

Yes it conditions the brain to 'buy' stuff from the store. Also its the most straight forward mechanism. Like the 'buy' option for the free BBC Micro version of elite.

Technically they can of set this transaction as a cost for tax purposes.

Ah yes - its for Horizon players *Only* so is encouraging you to upgrade to Horizons if you don't already have it.

Its just another form of marketing and maybe gets some 'news' in gamer sites.

I wonder how many comander have bought anaconda skins but maybe never get the actual ship in game to use them?

I've been on hiatus since around 2.2, came back recently and literally 2 days ago purchased the metallic red ascendant suit. Grumble.

Thanks, I guess. Gift horse and all that, but nothing in my size or style, so I'll pass.

Now, how about a Red Ignition paintjob for the Vulture? Or at least a Predator pack?
