New General Catalogue Mapping Expedition I

Ran into this tonight -- a huge gas giant with a ~10 hour rotational period.

Someone call Stellar Forge an Uber because I'm cutting it off.

I'm taking a break from my travels to do a quick ELW survey of a sector in the Scutum-Sagittarii conflux. Only found one so far, but I did find this:

Yup, that says 30 million km.

You can see it a little better in this shot, but that high metal content world is actually orbiting between the inner and outer rings:

Here is what it looks like to fly around that massive outer metal ring:

NGC 5307 was actually a bit of a bust, just two stars in a binary orbit.

Oh well, I guess they can't all be winners. I am going to hit what I think is an uncharted blue supergiant and a cluster of 10 'g' mass code systems before heading back towards the bubble and my final two waypoints.

A couple of oddities from the rest of the weekend. I believe this is personal record for smallest terrestrial body:

Another 'terraformable' world, just add atmosphere:

And a 'miracle' system -- each of the five non-ice planets with atmospheres are terraformable:

Just a quick update: As I was passing through the SYRALAEI AA-A d sector, I ran into 2 ELWs in quick succession. Taking that as a good sign, I decided to take a quick break from my journey to Hen 2-215 to do a survey of the entire sector. I'm only doing detailed scans on ELWs or systems with three or more terraformables and I've already netted 8 ELWs, 25 terraformable water worlds, 95 terraformable HMCs and 2 ammonia worlds across 200 systems.

No super rare ELWs as of yet, but I did find one in a relatively close binary orbit with a terraformable Mars-like that I thought was kind of neat.

Finally done with the survey. 14 ELWs out of roughly 400 systems scanned. Not a bad haul overall.

Hen 2-215 is still over 2,000 light years away. I've picked out a couple of intermediate waypoints that I think may still be undiscovered, including a bright O class giant, a double black hole system and a Wolf-Rayet star.

Took this as a souvenir from the survey. I think this ELW was particularly photogenic.

Ran into a couple of interesting things on my way to NGC 6337, including this ringed gas giant with two water moons (one of which is terraformable), two high metal content moons and a smaller ringed gas giant:

Here is a view from its ring system:

Another ELW and terraformable Mars-like binary pair:

A gas giant orbiting just over 20 light seconds from its main star:

And a really out of place ice world with a surface temperature of 580K:

I also stumbled across NGC 6139 (CD-39 10464); write-up has been posted.

Finally, a couple of shots from NGC 6337:

It looks like someone else has produced an entry for my final waypoint (NGC 6563), so it is about time to bring this expedition to a close -- and not a moment too soon as it appears the situation with the thargoids continues to get more tense.

I do have one more thing that I would like to investigate before I head back to the bubble -- an open cluster over by the Elephant's Trunk and Crescent Nebulae that doesn't appear to be documented in EDSM.

New personal record for a giant close to a star; it wasn't the main star, so I had to eyeball it, but this one was orbiting at about 3 light seconds' distance.

Posted my final write-up for the expedition covering the NGC 7209 star cluster. I may tool around the outer edges of the cluster for another hour or two to look for Earth-likes, but then it will be time to head back to the bubble and prepare to fight some thargoids -- or otherwise entertain myself while we wait for the overhaul to exploration mechanics.

Thanks to everyone for the supportive comments and rep.

Yeah I have the purple pulse on mine and I'm quite happy the horrible degradation is not too visible. And yes I despise it and I wish they gave us the option to fix it with our AFMUs. This way everyone would be happy, those who like it and those like me who detest it.
