Well, in 2018 there will be a new revolution, so maybe I'd just wait until then :p

Normally I wouldn't suggest waiting unless the impending release was like, a month or two away. It's easy to get stuck in the waiting game when it comes to PC hardware otherwise.

The difference between this year and the last few years previous though is a major shift in GPU technology. When GDDR5 came out it was a much more significant improvement than, say, another GDDR3 card would have or could have been. We've already seen what HBM 1.0 can do on a last-gen chip with Fiji, and I think it's worth waiting to see how it performs on an all-new GPU.

And it's disappointing to hear that AMD hasn't released a decent CF profile for Elite :(

Already have a GTX 980 TI card, and I will hold on to that one until 2018, then I will change again. :)

Ok, back from work, time to test this thing out :)

Oh - and a very merry Chrimble to everyone :)

Very very nice indeed.

Tips....,,1.don't use Nvidia Experience (no need at all plus it makes settings decisions for you, big thumbs down for that) download the latest drivers.
2, once installed double click on the screen and open Nvidia Control panel to make sure the frontier 64bit exe is added. (Should be as this is part of the purpose of the updated drivers)
3, if not present follow Flimleys guide for adding it in. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=215383
4, downloading MSI Afterburner to observe what your card is doing. http://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner

yes that should make everything good.

Excellent suggestions. The only part you left out is what settings you select under "manage 3d settings" to make Elite look its best. They have a lot of options in there, and it's not always clear which one will give you the best quality graphics.

So please, at least share what yours is set to, and if any are set to increase performance instead of pic quality (which this dude shouldn't be doing with a TitanX).

OK, so far it's a huge bucket of plops.

Absolutely no games that I've tried so far are stable. Elite gets me to the spinning ship and then the screens die. Titanfall shows me screens of RAM garbage. Carrier Command won't even get past the intro movie.

Time for another format and reinstall methinks :(

Remove the AMD drivers with the cleaner utility from AMD before you install NVidia drivers. There shouldn't be any surprises with the Titan. Right now AMD is an epic failure with ED. NVidia mostly runs fine. And no you can't use it for multi GPU. It's only possible with AMD/AMD or NVidia/NVidia and it only makes sense if the cards are the same in the first place.

I would pick a Fury X over a 980 Ti Every day of the year.

I would not recommend that if you want to play ED. Even a Fury can't push through the bug. It's just less severe because of the different architecture. If you have a 390 the game is unplayable and that's not because the bug is overloading the card. It's essentially idling. That bug is around for MONTHs. The only bug AMD loved even more was a GTA bug. But that wasn't quite as severe as you could mitigate it significantly by axing down GFX. The game didn't look nearly as good as it does but at least you could play it. The bug was on top of AMD's list for months as well. And that was G T A!

What is your power supply rating and how much power does your rig use (many calculators are available online)? Also, quality or cheap PSU?

I have an R9 390 and the game doesn't dip below 60 FPS, even in SC.

Driver Sweeper is what you want to totally clear your hard drive of old drivers though. AMD and Nvidia's automatic driver removal always leaves something behind.

I went AMD when I bought my last GPU for Budgetary reasons. To be honest, i'm not that impressed. I think i'll go back to NVidia for my next one.

What operating system and what drivers? My guess is Windows 7/8 ;-)

OP,

Merry Christmas & enjoy your new card.

Will also be purchasing myself a new one in the next few weeks using monies that I've received, although it'll only be a 970.

Having said that, it will be an upgrade from my current 7950.

970 has an excellent reputation

2016 is tomorrow. 2018 too far

YAY! I've got it working in Elite on three screens :)

Nvidia are an absolute pain to deal with though - their drivers conflicted with every single HDD SSD cache card I had installed. Only a reformat and reinstall, then manually set cache cards fixed it. At least everything works now :)

Yes, wait a few months is interesting. For the new GPU, the new memory but also the power consumption, the general performance of the card, and the size three times smaller that the current cards

Maybe go back to basics and make sure everything else is 100% stable? When I did my new build earlier this year, it took me months to trace down a rare memory error, that was only really fixed by replacing the ram. The frequently released bios updates also improved things along the way but never quite nailed it. And what is a "HDD SSD cache card"? A caching raid controller?
