New graphics card... Wow...

It has been the figure banded about based on release price in other countries and exchange rates etc. Will see 27th May (next Friday) as that is when pre-orders in the UK open I believe.

Honestly depends what you are upgrading from, the 1080 is only worth the cash if your going from 980 or less but anyone with a 980ti might as well stay as they are. I would suggest actually buying a 980ti second hand as they have been going for £300 ish and are only around 15% slower so even if you went 1440p 144Hz monitor your be absolutely fine and you can get a new monitor with monies saved then.

Adam

Thanks for that, at the moment I have a Nvidia 770 and been happy with it for a while now, it's only recently I've been having issues with ultra quality settings in games, the rest of the PC was top notch a couple of years ago and plan on keeping it for a few more years. However 2nd hand 980ti sounds like a good idea, I'll check some out. thanks.

I'm glad I upgraded to a skylake i7 before getting the alpha. A large park uses around 60% CPU. For me the problem is the GPU (GTX 660Ti) which maxes out even in an empty park. I can manage 45-50 FPS in large parks on max settings.

I actually have the EVGA 980ti liquid loop GPU. Was wondering about the heat generation on the fan cooled model vs the liquid loop i have. The fanspeed on this GPU's liquid loop leaves much to be desired for in terms of heat dissipation. :( (Should have saved up and got a proper full liquid cooling system later this year.)

Good choice, liquid is a much a more potent cooling solution. Titan's and 980ti's are know to run hot, so they come with large reference coolers and each OC variant comes with massive coolers with multiple fans, heatsinks, pipes etc etc. Having said that mine sits around 70 to 78 degrees under full load, surprisingly the fans is not loud but you can hear it if you get close to the case. In comparison my crossfire 6950 setup which had 6 fans sounded like a jet taking off under full load and they system would get really hot even though 80 degrees was never breached that I didn't need a heater in winter...

Heh, I wish. Unfortunately I don't have the money to keep buying the latest hardware every time something new comes out.

Oh well. I'm pretty content with my GTX 970 for the time being.

You're GTX 970 is definitely more than enough for Planet Coaster and most of the other games on the market at the moment. 970 is a slightly tweaked 980 (GM204), few minor modifications to retail at a cheaper price. 980ti is a slightly tweaked Titan x (GM200). Personally, If I had a 970 I would not upgrade to a 980ti or 1080, I would keep it for few more years.

well the way you made that sound makes it sound like you heard the game runs like crap, which is in no way the case, the game runs butter smooth until you fill the park with guests (2000+) does it need optimization? of coarse, its in alpha. but honestly for being this early of a build, it actually runs really well.

I agree, heck I ran this game with a 5 year old 6950, now that's impressive... All that I was trying to say was that some of the performance issues I was seeing were not related to the game what so ever but rather to my setup. I am thinking now that maybe Crossfire was to blame, as I have had many issues with many other games, getting better performance with one card than two, having to resort to disabling one card just to get acceptable frame rates or eliminate stutter or artifacts. So yeah, I am very impressed that this is alpha and that the game is running so well considering the insane amount of visual and physics detail. It is really like a interactive Pixar movie...
