New hyperspace visuals and target star arrival

TBH, I would have thought if the effort was being made to show the target star in the distance and getting brighter (closer?), the idea is to deliver it to your foreground as seamlessly as possible (when you exit hyperspace)?

But at least to me, the star still appears practically out of no where. ie: I'd expect a nice controlled zoom in from the star you've been watching the whole time?

I think most of the problem is not only does the star not (smoothly) transitioning from hyperspace to the star that ends up in front of you, but in fact almost nothing does. Your point of view seems to change, and many other visual elements disappear/appear, so it doesn't appear as a transition, simply the end of one thing - cut - the beginning of another.

Ideally, the two sequences need to blend in rather than one end, and the other begin :) Little things like even if the HUD elements popped in over the first second or so when you arrive, rather than all instantly? And the star field you're going to be met with starts to appear a second or so before the end of the hyperspace jump. The lighting changes over half a second or so, rather than instantly. ie: So there's less things all appearing/disappearing/changing in that one moment (frame)? Maybe next version?

This is the single frame between hyperspace and arrival...

It would be nice.

Maybe it will get smoothed out in a later update?

Well, remember that you are approaching the star at 10000x light speed or more, so in practical terms that star would just appear instantly anyway as you exit to supercruise from hyperspace. However, I do see your point -- it does look like a star at the end of the hyperspace tunnel. Maybe it's just supposed to be a "light at the end of the tunnel"? It does look odd, though, at least to me. Personally I'd rather that light wasn't there since it doesn't change size anyway even as you approach the exit point.

It's all about instancing and not seamlessness... it is what it is

When I first saw it that's kind of what I thought. Even dropping from orbial cruise to glide, you'll see the ground getting closer then it pauses for the transition. They probably did it this way so you wouldn't see the star moving closer rapidly then just pause and hang there.

I've seen the issue discussed somewhere by the Devs. Sorry I cannot cite references.

Apparently, in the original design, we were intended to hit the star at an offset - something to do with "artistry", can't remember the phrase (not archery !). And we have also inherited the sudden appearance of the star as we jump out of hyperspace from the original programming.

It seems the coding is deep on this one, and can't easily be fixed.

It's a bit tricky since the hyperspace animation is really very much a loading screen during which the game doesn't know a lot about the destination. The effect is a small colour-matched light at the end of the tunnel slowly getting brighter and bigger on a timer (at least that's what I conclude after looking at it while losing connection). Then once loading and server connection are done, you get a somewhat smoother arrival animation that shows you the "real" star as you drop out of the hyperspace tunnel.

They did, however, change the direction you face when arriving at the destination. In 2.1, that seemed more or less random, and now it's in a straight line from your departure system, so if you travel along a rather straight route, your next system is always smack dab behind the star :)

Woohoo a point of light at the end of the hyperspace tunnel-thingy?!

To look like the star I'm heading for (that is loading)?

That's gonna make all the difference. Can't wait to try it!! ;)

I can live with the popping star, it might be realistic at these speeds.

But what bothers me are the stars around which give me impression that I am jumping through half of the galaxy.

I hoped they remove this with the target star visibility. It makes absolutely no sense.

A perfect transition would look like entering the low wake while seamless morphing to the new skybox. Passing only the few stars you would really see on your way.

Agreed, but...it's still an improvement. :)
