New idea: Auctions for ships & goods

My new idea is: Auctions for ships & goods!

- Ships of notoriously criminals or old police ships will be for auction. Every player can make a bid, either in Open or single mod within a time limit.
The ships will be sold as is. The criminal will lose his/her ship permanently and can not bid.
The engineered modules will be included.
- Goods that are smuggled will be confiscated and be auctioned off at unregulated planets or stations.
- Rare goods and exotic materials will also be auctioned.

All of this is also applicable in solo mod.

That's about it!

i kinda like the idea, it would be a way for pilots to buy a bigger ship that is already setup, cost less...or more and easy to oversee the purpose/build.
You would get a tag on your dashboard " previous owner, comdr........, famous pirate"

More generally, I'd like a 'used ships market' where 'used' ships that have been sold by players, as well as procedurally generated ones can be obtained. Since Elite is a database driven game, it would be nice to use this to attach a logbook of the ship's past activities that the new owner can peruse. The used ship might come with some modules above the base E-rating of a new hull, but with some degree of module and hull damage to repair.

Ideally, ship repair costs would take on an S curve, where the last few % of repairs would get progressively more expensive, so the flipside of a used hull would be that it would be more expensive than buying a new one to repair it and its modules to 100%.

This would also act as a money sink for rich players.

OK, but they're must be complete ok-ships also. Otherwise you just got another grind game and i would imagine some comdr's would not see the fun in a ship with hidden costs. Lets not take RL to this game but give new players some extra fun to seek for a new used ship.

Buying a new ship with all E rated modules vs. buying a used ship hull with no modules for say half the price. E rated modules are not that expensive so the trade in value is minimal at best. I'd buy a used hull for half price or there abouts at an auction and upgrade it as my budget would allow. Probably get a fully functional ship to my liking for maybe 3/4 the price of a brand new one. I want to buy a DBX in the near future so hurry this along please...
