new idea for the game !

slave/workers ownership. you can post them on stations in your factions area of effect and they will work and earn you money over time. for example put them to work on farms and you will earn roughly 500k a week. housing will effect the income of the workers, for example putting them in first class cabins/hotels will make them more happy and they will make you more money.the more expensive the workers the more money you make and if you are willing to spend good money on them they will earn you good money in return, the longer you own/hire them the better their rank/your reputation with them grows and you earn even more. having a station set as a home station would be nice too, the more you do work for that home station the more money you earn and the better jobs they offer you personally.

Can I build an empire and own space stations and fleets?Edit

You will be able to own small inflatable asteroid stations as depicted here as part of an update, but you can't own large stations, build empires or own fleets, since that would change the nature of the game.

For example, why would you pilot space ships yourself, when the most efficient way to make money and progress in a game is to sit back in an office and hand out commands?
It's also problematic from a lore and immersion standpoint, since the game is simulating realistic societies, social structures and time scales, so building an empire would involve a lot of resources and politics that only big nations can afford and would stretch over months or years, even building a large space station can take a month or more.

So as an Elite federation pilot, you will only be able to aid in building empires and large space stations through Community Goals, by taking missions to transport resources and defend them, but you are too low on the social ladder (not important enough) to be able to command or own these kind of things.

That said, you will be able to hire NPC wingmen and escorts and give them simple commands, but you won't be able to own or remote control them directly.

Check the link and find the bit for links to the Developers video comments on this. Also "new" may be a stretch for the title :D:D

That's a bad idea from a gameplay aspect but also rather disturbing that the best thing you can think of to improve the game is to make "slave master" a career option. I know this is only fantasy but some people's fantasies are more worrying than others.

you dont want afk rank grinding and missions ???better get rid of powerplay than.

this said you would not be able to keep them on the one station and farming would not be viable as at the end of the week you would need to move them to a new station or a station that need help with work. this could be a mission type for example.

and the number of workers you can own would be limited. you could eventually hire named workers for example similar to how the engineers work. you hire them for a high price and put them in a station that need them most or a station that has a mission for them, you would need to get them the supplies they need on a weekly basis and keep them busy. not exaply afk farming... you know like 90% of the game right now lol or them wonderful skimmer missions XD 10/10 gameplay right there.

I'll believe that when I see it!

Key world also in bold. Expect maybe 2.4/3.0 (as we believe that'll be a joint update) or 3.1.... It has been discussed in livestreams and the wording for NPC multi-crew was "It won't appear in the initial 2.3 release" which implies it will appear at some stage. Once they've got crew working it's not a big stretch to wingmen :)

Only partly what this is about. The key arguement some of the other posters have forgotten is Elite that is a pilot simulator, It isn't sim-city or investment manager or space-fleet command. The core principal is that you are a small cog in a big machine, a pilot and a ship, you arn't the hero, you arn't the ruler of an Empire, you arn't the head of a major organisation.
Sure a few things are getting closer to breaking some of those but this would fundamentally change the game.

if im earning millions of dollars and have the ability to buy people and also hire people to work on my ship with rng i might add it is far from a simulator. the way the game is now it feels like a free to play le and if they want more people playing t before it dies off they might want to make things a little more fun and or easier. as it stands the game always has something going on and there is no faster way to earn money than cheating. i am looking for way to reward pilots, not bring them down and make the game feel like a job.

Nothing against a paid NPC crew (not "slaves") to run your station and/or ships.

However, those guys should cost you money, not make it! Where is the gameplay value in just installing an automated credit-producing machine the player just has to skim ever other day?

By the way, this is, why I am ambiguous about automated mining facilities. And those might even work, if they leach out the local ressources fast and have to be moved to newly discovered spots every time. There would be at least some gameplay involved here, especially, if there is also the risk of being robbed.
Always working "slaves"... not so much.
