New Launcher not working

I downloaded the new client installer for PC and did the install. When I click the play button I get an error saying "The code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem."

Well I did that and it didn't work. Is there a solution for this?

I did that and it didnt work, this is the most cluster of an install ever! The log files dont even exist according to FDEV own documentation.

Whatever the problem is its related to WatchDog64.exe

Watchdog64.exe is part of the game install, but it's calling on a windows file that either isn't there or it can't find for some reason.

Reinstalling the launcher is an easy thing to try as part of your diagnostic process, so is verifying the game files from the launcher.

You can also try searching your local HDD for the missing dll file to determine whether it's actually missing or you just have a pathing issue.

If it's missing you can follow the steps here:

Good luck!

I had same issue and this fix worked for me

I have a ticket open with FD for this problem. I had it with my Windows 7 machine, and got myself a new motherboard with no storage medial on it, installed a new flat SDD chip on it, loaded Windows 10, loaded Elite - same erro! N.B. The single-player combat training DOES work, but all the other five installations give the VCRUNTIME140_1.dll error the first time I try to run them, and nothing at all the second time, but the game doesn't load.

As an alternative, I can suggest to use the MinEDLauncher - which essentially bypasses the normal launcher and jumps directly into the client you want (EDH Legacy, EDH 4.0, EDO). Also supports spawning a VR session.

Hi Commander. Sorry for delay in replying. I will give the MinEDLauncher a go. The FD help desk is not being helpful, so far. I can't see that it makes any sense at all to reload the VC distrtable package and the .NET files, too. I've only just installed Windows 10 on a clean drive on a different PC from the one that originally produced the error and it happened again. Surely there's something wrong the launcher. Thanks for your suggestion. If it works, for me that'll prove it.

Hmm, I seem to remember reading about something like this happening on windows 10 enterprise edition, as opposed to the other versions?

IIRC, there was even a fix by editing a text file.

Just to let you know... With a bit of help from a friend, I've made the problem go away. The error message about missing VCRUNTIME140_1.dll was misleading (as computer error messages often are). Re-loading of libraries did no good, neither did upgrading to Windows 11. It was the graphics card drivers. Because I got a working display, I assumed that Windows had just found the right drivers for the graphics card. Wrong. My friend suggested going to the Nvidia site, and downloading and installing the drivers. I did, and now all is well. How a case of missing graphics drivers ends up as a error about a runtime library, I can't imagine. I hope that this message might save somebody else some time and torn-out hair! (PS - the problem first appeared on a different, older PC - could be that graphics cards that are no longer good enough for ED, as gets bigger and better, throw up that runtime error, instead of complaining about the graphics. you might need to upgrade the hardware if this happens to you,)
