Hardware & Technical New Logitech X56 HOTAS!

I've noticed a drift in my 16000m over the last couple days too, really slow up or down, seems to happen when I don't have my hands on the stick. In the calibration screen there's no drift. If I pull either up or down and release it'll sometimes correct itself when it snaps back into place. This has only happened since the 3.03 update.

I have the stick and for 4 years and its drifting too. Before the update.

I just adjusted the deadzone on the yaw and problem solved.
Try a deadzone adjustment.

Vedmo, what do you use for secondary fire? The button I'm using on my X55 has become a mini-stick on the X56. Do you click the stick, or use something else?

I messed around with secondary for a while, even had it on the throttle for a bit, but ended up using the pinky trigger.

I just bought the X56 two days ago and downloaded the latest drivers/program. Profiles won't load to HOTAS stick or throttle. before starting to profile, the profiler will see the buttons when I press them, and they will highlight in the image and column, but when I setup a button profile and click the little profile button, then try the test button which opens the test window, nothing happens in the test window when I push any button on the HOTAS (STICK or Throttle), but my keyboard and mouse inputs show up fine. I disabled firewalls and Anti-virus. Uninstalled and re-installed. I also uninstalled through the device manager and windows registry. I then re-installed. Profiles will not save to HOTAS. I run the windows and the X56 HOTAS profiler and all buttons are recognized, (except in the test window, where nothing happens when pressing anything on the hotas), but I can't program any button. Just to reiterate, I click on the little profile button and then the little test button next to it...Nuth'n.

Why do you need the profiles? I just start the game and it recognizes the x56. Also Win10 newest version (fall creators incl. all updates).

You don't need the profiles but there are keys and controls that ED doesn't work with directly. The slider on the throttle is one, I also use one of the rotary controls for volume and 2 other switches to grab screenshots and to start Xbox game recordings.

That means, that without the profiles ED doesn't react to the buttons and with ED react to them?

Yes, at least for the thumb slider, ED doesn't react at all to that control. The other rotary controls can be seen by ED but I don't find them useful for in-game functions, that's why I assign them to system functions. I'd like to see a rotary control for dimming the ship's interior lighting, could assign that to rotary 3 or 4.

Wow, they nailed a lot of the problems!

My original yellow X-55 joystick lasted almost 3 years before the yaw spring broke. Too bad that I could not buy one. Thumb controls on the joystick were also pretty 'loose' which I didn't realize until replacing it. Throttle is still good although the 'grease' always required breaking in on the X-55/X-56. Never had any wiring issues. My Blue X-56 is still working OK after a year although joystick yaw centering is still a little off. Add damping in the ED options/controls and it works. Playing gently with the yaw spring on the blue but it looks like that both of these issues are on the problem list that Logitech resolved. We'll see. I just ordered the grey version on Amazon. Even a two year extended warranty was $1.51 versus $30.00 when I purchased the blue version. The insurance company must have confidence in the new one.

IMO a reliable and accurate X-56 grey (hopefully) is hands down the best PC controller for ED as the switch designs mate perfectly to the option/controls in ED. Ship, SRV, thrusters, targeting, cargo scoop, sensor zooms, UI focus, look around, camera controls (love the two analog sticks for professional video pans and still work as thrusters), maps, lights etc. are all there. SCBs, chaff and heat sinks are programmable by switches instead of fire groups. Keep firing away while popping a SCB and a heat sink. Tell your expensive fighter Pilots what to do. All in the X-56 mode one and you have two more modes you haven't programmed yet. The interface designers totally nailed it. The reliability was always the big issue. But per the excellent interface design I keep buying the things hoping for the best.

Next is the reliable Thrustmaster T16000m which has almost as many control options as the X-56 and is a lot cheaper! It has a linear moving throttle versus a rotating one which takes getting use to but a player can count on it in combat. The Warthog is the most solid reliable build but dedicated to aircraft flight simulation losing commands with their switch designs versus ED with two commands on every toggle switch on the X-56. Items like turn on the lights forward and back to activate the scoop so a player can see what they are scooping! The Warthog also requires pedals for yaw control or customized work around solutions which playing for many hours is more convenient with yaw on on the joystick. Of course a player preference. Total immersion for many require the pedals.

I own all three and the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4 for the PS4 and T.Flight rudder pedals so I'n not just guessing here. Any of them will work well with ED so it's more about aesthetics and personal preferences. Meanwhile let's hope Logitech got it right this time.

Note that my microwave in the kitchen decided that the numbers 5-9 on the keypad no longer work. Probably cheaper to replace it than fix it unless I can find the control panel replacement per a failed IC chip. Like a replacement yaw spring on an X-55 it probably won't be available, Welcome to technology in 2018...

Here's my blank X-55 templates if you want to play with them and see what works for you. They are high quality for printing. Still looking for similar X-56 pictures to update them. I may have to get out the cameras.

Update: Bought the grey on a Friday from Amazon, arrived on Sunday. I've never seen a Sunday delivery before.

...I also use one of the rotary controls for volume...

Great idea! Always having to go to Windows and use the mouse or keyboard. Never needed a profile with ED and the X-55/56 but might try this out with a few other ideas as well for the five rotaries and one slide switch on the X-56. Meanwhile...Hey Frontier we have rotaries you can program!

You can use the slider switch on the throttle, and any other buttons ED does not recognise through voice attack.
I use the slider switch for the landing gear.

Also, you can just bind slider to keyboard key in x-56 software, and then bind that key in ED.

I use slider for reverse throttle. Strange though that slider does not work straight out with ED, it is recognized by other games I've tested.

yeah, strange thing that the new x56 isn't available via retailers like Amazon. The critics there nailed down lots of the problems the stick had in the past. Right now, we miss that platform.

Hey folks,

I'm loving my new X-56. Small problem, that's more of an annoyance. I wonder if anyone has a suggestion.

Every time I launch the game three buttons don't work.

On the stick, main trigger....kind of need that.

On the throttle, button E and the scroller (on the left throttle).

It's easy to fix by going into the Windows (Win7) Devices and Printers control panel. Select the controller in the devices list and activate each of those buttons. Fixes it every time. Problem is that it's just annoying having to do this every time before I can use the controller. Any ideas on what I can do to get these buttons to work?

Yes, every time.

It's probably an easy fix. Advice appreciated :)

I still hope those guys at Logitech come up with an entirely new HOTAS in the following few years.
Cuz the X56 is inherently a flawed design, no matter how you slice it.

Heard Logitech and RSI are still negotiating whether or not to continue the Star Citizen HOTAS Saitek was working on back in the Mad Catz days. I hope they will continue, would love to see a worthy successor of the X56

The best thing about this is the Quality Control on the production of this HOTAS. I own one from the Saitek batch and one from the Logitech batch, they both have the same functionalities but the one from Logitech feels much more sturdier. And it looks less childish without that ugly blue paintjob.

If you were hesitant to buy this product because of its poor quality, feel free to give it a go now !
