New Material Capacity - Ignore List

How does the ignore work for mining?

Does it auto-vent the unwanted ore or completely ignore any fragment that contains it?
I'd much prefer the former to the latter.

Ignored fragments are not picked up by the limpets. It's a great time saver if you're after specific things and weren't intending to keep, say, low-value commodity minerals.

But aren't fragments made of multiple ores - do you really want to ignore a fragment containing Painite because it also contains something you don't want?

It will still pick u[ fragments with the wanted stuff, but the refinery doesn't process the ignored mineral. It makes mining a 10% painite roid worthwhile.

It will ignore any single material. Mixed fragments simply do not process in the refinery, so no continual dumping of the bins, as well as the material storage. Just make sure the undesired fragment is on the ignore list. :)

This thread demonstrates why this improvement was GROSSLY overdue.

Thank you.

Now, if we could only *toggle* the mining lasers to fire... :(

Limpets are about half as smart as [members of whichever political party you most strongly disagree with], and will try to collect anything they happen upon while flying around, including things you have no space for, forcing you to eject 3 of whatever that might be so they can drop what they're carrying and go back to what they were doing.

An Actual Ignore List would be a great feature, one I requested during the first beta. Not knowing what you're currently ignoring and not having a quick and easy way to remove something from your Ignore List is something of an annoyance, especially if it's something you've ignored by accident and is particularly rare.

I find the ignore feature really easy to use, and FDev have made it simple and obvious (to me) when and how to undo it.

Firstly, in the contacts screen, you can clearly see and toggle anything ignored. Secondly, on the main view window, the targeting squares are broken if the object is ignored, and thirdly the limpets say there are no valid collection targets, when you can see targets, making it very obvious for you to check your ignore list.

Compared to many other features introduced by FDev - this feature seems a remarkably well thought through design, quick & easy to use, and very handy for ignoring (often illegal) canisters when concentrating on materials. So I am not clear why what you are referring to would really be better?

I've found the ignore list to be very useful. For example:

In the SRV, ignoring maxed materials mean they go to the bottom of the contacts list so you can simply mash the select key to pick up the materials you do want on high G worlds.

In a wing, I can ignore specific materials that other wing mates want and let my limpits collect the rest.

Mining, you can select specific elements to ignore, so fragments with multiple elements will be captured and processed, bu the ignored elements will be dumped automatically.

The fact there's no specific ignore list manager doesn't appear to be issue, as the items still appear in contacts at the bottom of the list, which is where you spend half your time when collecting materials anyway. Also, if you manually select an ignored item when in an SRV you can still scoop it, which is useful for mats list Iron, Phosperous etc that you occasionally dip into to refuel, repair, rearm etc.

The only annoying feature is the requirement to now select items for collection twice due to the additional ignore submenu. This is however only an issue in the SRV where there are other Outcrops etc around, meaning you have to scroll down after each collection to select the next material for collection. If you're mashing the select button and then hitting down, it's very easy to ignore instead of select for collection. This is however only an issue on high G worlds, where you can "speed mash collect".

OP. In addition to others comments re mining, it also means in a haz res you can tell your limpets to stop picking up canister cargo which can lead to agro from NPC. Ofc you need to ID each cargo individually, but it takes seconds and once ignored it stays ignored.

I was out mining in a Cutter.

I used the ignore list to "not pickup" low value stones.
And to avoid picking up illegal cargo from destroyed pirate ships.

I would like a option to ignore any cargo that is illegal, etc. that would be great.

... was curious how on Earth I'm going to remember what I ignored and what I didn't. Especially when I start ignoring more and more maxed out materials....

Much as I love the new feature, it could do with some improvements:
  1. You can't view your total ignore list of mats/cargo
  2. You still have check the number of mats you have against your ignore list incase you've already used that mat up and need to collect more
  3. You have to target the mat to see how many you have, which can result in the limpet collecting it and then destroying itself (I never understood why they do that)

An additional improvement - the limpets auto-collect any mat that hasn't reached the material storage limit (you can still manually ignore mats if you want)

Quite correct. It can be a lifesaver if the authority takes a dislike to you. Always scan, and ignore, before deploying.

It exists. Just find one, lock on to it, and add it to the ignore list.

If you have already collected one, dump it immediately, and add it to the ignore list.

No as I stated I understood it's value for mining, it was the SRV that I was questioning. Now after trying it out with the SRV, I've realized it does make it easier and it's still possible to target materials even on the ignore list. So if I find a rock that has Phosphorus and Sulfur, I can restock my ammo and refuel and then target each material and collect them and cap out without actually having to remove them from the Ignore list...
