New naval rank grind meta working as intended?

Given the recent attention being given to skimmer missions and mining missions, both being exploited for massive potential credits, I wonder if it's working as intended that people are able to grind to King from low Imperial ranks in no more than 4 hours doing data missions from Mainani to Ngalinn? Being able to choose more reputation as payout seems to make the rank too easy to obtain. I understand reducing the grind somewhat, but 4 hours to Duke just seems like insanity. When I did my Imperial rank grind in 2.4 it took days and days of work, and even that seemed too quick to rise through the ranks of a navy. From what I understand this also works exceptionally well at old Federation rank grind spots, like Niu Hsing and Chakpa. Can Frontier confirm this is working as intended?

I’m not sure if there is something wrong with playing a game for 4 hours and accomplishing this sort of goal in that time. 4 weeks to accomplish that goal definitely felt bad though.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I can't speak for Frontier, but to me this is a welcome change. The game needs less grind, not more.

To me this is just bringing in the time investment in line with the reward. Let's face it - all the ranks go is gate ships. I think spending a few hours to obtain access to a Cutter is reasonable. Spending weeks/months to do so is not.

And yet in another thread I've just read a comment from someone who thinks it's reasonable to spend 2 to 3 years waiting to get access to a Cutter...... :x

I was being generous. lol. For me it was years. I've been playing since launch and I only got Duke (for the Cutter) this past weekend on account of the mission reward change.

No game content should ever take that long to obtain imho.

I hope no change happens or it gets taken out for something. I've been stuck at 100% "None" Rank with the Federation for months, and haven't been offered a rank up mission. Just got done hopping from system to system look for it, and now I settled into two federation systems that I hope to complete some missions for and the rank pops up.
I've been living that grind for a little too long.

I remember when I spent a solid two months at 17 Draconis fighting in the wars and doing donations just to get my rank up. Only to have my rank get stuck at 100% Midshipman or something and Fdev supports idea of fixing that bug was to set my rank back 3 levels...
(He explained that it was displaying my rank wrong so I was actually 3 ranks behind what the game was displaying me at. Imagine how demoralizing that felt...)

By the time they got around to seeing that was not an acceptable fix for my situation I had already gritted my teeth and made it to Rear Admiral...

Why yes I am still salty about that whole debacle...

I found it mind numbing doing those stacked return data missions ad nauseam .... all credit whoever can now grind rank in a short time that way (because the rep for missions has increased), but under the old system it was not for me after reaching a couple of ranks below Duke.

I am Duke now, have been since just before 3.0, but I still don't have a Cutter  From the pictures that are posted, the Cutter looks a fine ship to head out into the galaxy and explore .... the color schemes available for it now are fabulous !

And that brings me to another issue (minor sidetrack) - why no similar love for the Clipper ? :(

Well that's way too long. I had access to the Corvette and Cutter within the first 6 months of playing the game (started in December 2015 with Horizons 2.0).

I'll let the devs decide how quick it should be. I have no stake in this fight - I'm already King/Admiral. The grind shouldn't be trivial, but I leave that to the devs to decide. I don't care who has access to what.

Besides, if you think it's funny watching newbies - who made cash super quick - fly Anacondas, that won't be anything compared to watching them fly Cutters. They will be boosting/drifting out of control all over the place. Fun for all. [big grin]

I personally did my grind for the cutter before 2.3 came out. I had already worked my way up through to the anaconda trading alone. Having even experienced a T9 and having to slowly piece meal upgrade it while trading. Before then trading up a savings for the anaconda and then upgrading it.

When I got the cutter, I already had learned and came to respect how to fly high mass ships. It is like playing chess. You can't just react. You have to plan ahead. But honestly, I do not ever want to fly a T9 again. (Because of this. The moment I saw the T10 was just a T9 with wings I decided I never wanted one of them either.)

I really wish players could go into training missions by choosing a ship type. The docking and super cruise missions could be so enlightening if they could attempt those as any ship.

That sounds awful, and ridiculous excuse as well. You also have every right to still be salty about that as well, cause oof thats not good to derank a player back to square one.

Having a good time of it on the Federation side ranking up to Rear Admiral. Lieutenant so far. After putting up with the grind on my XBox account to get the Cutter, I wasn't sure I'd be able to will myself into doing another one for the Corvette.

The current pace seems just about right.

Someone please tell yamiks he can finally stop saying RANKGRIND every time he talks about the federal ships :D:D:D:D:D

Why don't you all just be honest in your threads instead of beating around the bush.

MOMMY it's not fair some got something sooner than I did. MOMMY do something..

I will admit though this forum is absolutely funny as hell right now. Everyone is just trying to destroy ED for some reason right now. Hell let's remove all the ships in the game altogether and Just put everyone in sideys. All a rated and just get rid of everything else in the game. Just a sidey and Srv and planets to fly to. No credits, naval stuff, missions, trading anything. Just get rid of it all.

Then there's nothing for you all to cry about to mommy.

Also aren't alternate forum accounts against the rules? Seems like a very strange first post for someone who just joined today?

Honestly, I'm seeing more posts like this everyday. I think this community has actually mellowed a lot this past year or so. Not completely, but we're getting there. It might even rub off on the devs....

No what it boils down to is that it took me a good 3 months to get my vette, now its gonna only take a couple of days for a noob to rank up oh well quess i will be sending them home with a rebuy.

Just a quick note to let you know that we will be temporarily removing naval rank increases from the game, until we're able to implement the next patch and set of hotfixes (I will let you know when the patch is coming as soon as possible).

in 3.... 2.... 1....

So, it's only really bad for them, right?

Am I missing something?
