Proposal Discussion New opportunity to buy space station and planet name ?

SC backer base maybe perhaps slighly different to ED base. Perhaps there be more understanding here. The Alpha users did not seem to complain when 'their' product was made available to Beta.

Apologies for sounding like a grumbly pedant, but 'their' product isn't available to betas. The old original Dec 2013 alpha 1.1 build is.

Have we had any updates from FD regarding buying naming a station?

I would like to name a station after my dad, who passed away earlier this year. I backed to the alpha level but would gladly pony up £200 to name one.

I know the KS was £500, but I have no interest really joining the DDF (they've done a grand job so far), as I believe that should be a KS perk. I would just like to name a station

If you want to name your planet or space station then good luck to you because this is your game, but for me is a big no. We did not buy the game for other spoilt players to name themselves in a game we had bought.

Who said we named it after ourselves? I didn't. I named both my station & planet after my late Dad, for reasons explained earlier in this thread. If you have a problem with that, well... shame on you.

Sadly no updates yet. :( I, for one, hope you can do what you ask for.

And if there is then Frontier better implement an option to switch off third parties players names on theirs planetary or space station.

Thank you very much and I'm sure there are many out there who do not want to see other names in theirs games apart from other Cmdr names and at the end of the day it all about moneys.

Without those "spoilt" players, this game might never have happened. Actually, I take offense to being called spoiled, just because I donated enough to get a station and a planet named by me.

I gave £2,200 in all (£1,700 to Elite, £500 to a book), some gave even more. If the pledge rewards had stopped at £200, I wouldn't have pledged as much, and I think that many other high pledgers would've stopped there too. While we aren't solely responsible for the success of the Kickstarter, our donations makes up for a lot of the Kickstarter money.

I like the idea of having something in a great game named by me. Most people won't even know it's a planet or space station which I named, but to me, it's special.

Am I spoiled? I don't think so.

I'm a mailman, so I'm not swimming in money.

I prioritized, gave up going on vacation, saved up all I could during the kickstarter, and put all my savings in this game.

If that makes me spoiled, so be it, I guess.

Because I wanted to have something special, in the game I've been waiting for for 25 years, I paid what I had to.

On-topic:
The selfish side of me is not happy if everyone can name a planet, for less that I paid.

On the other hand, I really don't care (I used to be very vocal against stuff like this). Anything that helps this game is fine by me.

Absolutely this. I'm far from being a rich man, but when the opportunity arose to name something in this game that I had been waiting 25 years for I simply prioritised. Did without. Jiggled everything around so it would be possible for me to do this, both as an homage to my old man, and equally importantly, to help the game get made. It wasn't easy, and 18 months on I'm still feeling the financial effects of it, but it was nevertheless worth every penny & I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Hundreds of others did the same... and full kudos to them for doing so.

I think Mr Kettle needs to look up the meaning of the word "spoilt", as I believe it is he who is acting like that - had people not done this there would likely be no game for him to buy in the first place.

Fangrim, I look forward to meeting you at the launch party if you make it. :)

Edit: I have no problem with FD offering naming rights as an MT at whatever level in the future. I would err towards the new stuff like cities, planetary features, etc rather than stations or planets though... as whilst I don't have a problem with them charging less for these in future others doubtless will (and they would have a fair gripe).

I would love the opportunity to name 'something' in the game. However, I can see (and agree) that this should not undermine the people who supported ED at this level during the kickstarter.
