New PC Build for Elite. Budget £700.What would you change?

OP I went for a very similar setup except for a gtx 760 OC and a 650w gold PSU. I went for liquid cooling as well, and it all runs very cool.
The CPU temp never exceeds 10 degrees C above ambient and the mobo never more than 5 degrees C above ambient, and that's a good thing for longevity of the system.
But if you're on a really tight budget you can probably drop the liquid cooling.

If you're serious about just ED then I'd drop the overclocking and up the graphics card. If you're playing multiple games, I'd keep the overclocking and buy either the R9 280X or the 970.

What matters to me is the truth, and having people stopping repeating this same garbage tech "advice" seen in forums throughout the web.

"Need 32GB of RAM", "Need a 750W PSU" etc etc. It all adds up to a gigantic waste of cash for zero benefit. The blind leading the blind.

Yeah ok, whatever. You have your truth, we have ours. You've got every right to voice your OPINION, same as the rest of us. Please don't try to shove it down our throats and demand that you are right and everyone else is wrong.

We all have opinions, its how we put them forward that makes us different. If the OP is in the UK I could of saved him even more money, but I do not want to be shouted down by somebody who doesn't get trade price.

AMD makes better gaming cards if you are not planning to do work with the pc you are buying and GTX960 is poop ... at least a GTX970 or above.

Yup, noone does eh?

TBH no.

I paid out £300 for my £800 upgrades. Yes I was stupid and didn't upgrade my PSU and it cost me another £35 (non-trade)
If I upgrade in 18 month, which I probably will, I will at least have a power supply that works. BTW I run four 2 gig HD's and 2 Blu-rays :( got the other 3 HD's after I upgraded lol. (Keep filling them with stuff lol)

Personally I would go AMD on the CPU. You can get six cores for 70 quid and the gtx 970 seems to be a very good deal at the moment. That will run elite maxed out with loads spare.

Also it doesn't hurt to get a 700 watt PSU. It will only use the power that's it needs and you won't need to upgrade it in future plus they aren't expensive. Win win.

Yep, I paid £35 for my Gold rated 750 PSU. I originally worked out I only needed a 450 due to not running the other HDs and DVD/Blu-Rays. It was nice and running lovely at 446 Watts, but then I connected the rest of my stuff and the power supply went pop lol lol. I nearly pooped lol lol. :) Anyway none of my other 400 Specially Build PCs have failed and thats because I put power supplies in them which are bigger then required, due to the fact that people tend to upgrade everything except their power supplies.

Why are you being so silly? Nobody cares about anything you say. We have all had enough of your TROLLing posts just to wind everybody up. If you are not arguing about being right about everything, your telling everybody they are wrong about being right. The best thing for everybody and the OP is for you to stop posting. Please do not think I am being nasty about this but if GOD told him to use a 700 Watt PSU we can all see you standing there telling GOD he knows nothing about PSU's and how much power the OP needs.

When somebody says " you are right" take it as a HINT that you are correct. BUT when somebody says " but I think it would be best to use something better " Do not jump down their throats for making a point. You may want to run the risk of under powering your system, and you may also have stupid amounts of money to spend, but people on here may have years of experiance when it comes to power supplies, computers and other stuff related to electricity which you may not know. Do not dismiss something just because you have seen it on the net so it has to be 1,000,000% true. Remember people on the net say Elvis is still alive when we all know he's actually dead.

Here are my components

700W 80+ rated PSU
Z68 Mobo
i5 3570
R9 270
2x4GB RAM
3 mechanical hard drives
1 SSD
DVD drive
Mouse and Keyboard

Tell me..

1) How many Watts my system needs at maximum CPU and GPU load.
2) How many Watts my system needs while gaming.

I'll be surprised if you even get within 50W of the total. Note that I will provide the actual numbers for both.

Wow, there has been a lot of muck thrown at Adored over night for simply holding his own on the fact that the OP doesn't need more PSU and future upgrades (except for going SLI) won't need more PSU.

I'm afraid that reading through the lot, everyone opposing Adored are the 'trolls' here, you have driven him tontbe edge and made him seem aggressive by ignoring his solid advice.

Lol don't worry about me :D. I will continue to ask them for evidence of their assertions until they either admit they don't know what they're on about or give some actual solid numbers on component power draw. The truth will out one way or the other.

It's very easy for them to start given that they know all the parts of my system. Anyone who actually knows this stuff (you'd think electricians would know quite a bit about electricity right?) will have no problems coming up with the actual numbers for my system power needs.

heres a basic calculator for you, remember in the end its the total wattage/amps per voltage rail on the psu that matters not the total combined "maximum" suppliers like to impress you with.

He already knows... He was asking the know alls disagreeing with him to show their knowledge. ;)

If we are giving our full on opinions on what the OP should buy; I would personally up the GPU and downgrade the CPU to an i3 or even a 4th gen Pentium chip (an i3 without the threading).
