New PC - love to hear your opinion!

This is the build I'm looking at - the text is ripped from the "basket" I've saved the item to. I'm useless at building stuff so I'll be getting Scan Computers to build it - I've used them a lot in the past and they're great, although not cheap.

It's primary use willl be ED (naturally!) but it will also be a general workhorse for all sorts of stuff - probably not content creation though although I may dabble with OBS a bit.
Getting new stuff is always cool. I received a new PC for Father's Day.

That rig shouldn't have any issues with ED. Have fun!

I built a ryzen 3700x system a couple years ago.
Seems quite a bit has changed since 2019.
Right now, performance for $$ goes to intel, hands down. If I had to rebuild my gaming system today, I'd go intel.

In fact, after reading up on the subject, i may donate my rig to my daughter, and go intel anyway.

* Disclaimer, I have zero brand loyalty, I use whichever brand performs best for $ spent.

OK all! The final build takes into account everything you've come back with plus a few of my choices. The biggest changes are the GPU, RAM and cooler:

  • NZXT H710i
  • ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, Zen 3, 8-core with SMT, 3.8GHz, 4.7GHz Turbo
  • be quiet! Dark Rock 4 - Quiet Performance Air Cooler
  • 32GB (2x16GB) Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO - 3600MHz
  • IN STOCK 10GB ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 TUF GAMING OC, 8704 Cores, 1740MHz Boost, GDDR6X
  • Corsair RM750x, Modular, Silent, 80PLUS GOLD - up to RTX 3090 / RX 6800 XT
  • 1TB WD Blue SN550, 2400MB/s Read, 1950MB/s Write, 410K IOPS
  • 2TB Seagate ST2000DM008 BarraCuda, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache
  • Asus DVD Reader/Writer - External
  • ASUS STRIX RAID PRO
  • Standard RGB Lighting
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit
Order placed!

SO - THANKS!
G'wan Tyres. That's a savage build. I'd have a few edits to it myself, but that's closing the door after the horse has bolted.

Great stuff finding the 3080 in stock, she's a great card. I had an RM750x myself, but when my 3080 arrived I got nervous and upped it to an RM850x. IF you have the same impulse, I'd say you'd have no problems swapping them out and selling the old one with fairly minimal fuss.

Down the road, look at upgrading the the drives to m.2 ones. I've got the same amount of storage on mine (a 1tb main drive and a 2tb for storing things on) and I think you'll find that spinny hard drive slowing you down a fair whack.

I might have a look at an external DVD/RW now myself!

The first drive is an M2 ;)

Originally, it was a Corsair one but it was pointed out to me that the price shaving/performance thingummy might be better with the WD option. That saving - and the saving on the CPU cooler - was enough to bump me from a 3070ti to the 3080.

Speaking of which, that is no longer in stock...

bring it around to my house and leave it for a couple of days.i will give a test drive for you :devilish:

well i don't think they do that way m8, i had one what was supposed have a higher cpu,but all they did was installed a cpu and overclocked it to read the same one i ordered. but i hope they have for you bud.

It takes a lot more than an overclock for a CPU to be detected as another model. Regardless, if the contract was for a specific part and not a specific performance level, this would be fraud.

Just wanted to say that you need to compare equivalent cpus (in price & performance)

For 6 cores cpus : Intel I5 11400f vs AMD 5600X.
For 8 cores cpus : Intel I7 11700k vs AMD 5800X.

Price & performance are closer. A nice thing with AMD, you can often upgrade your old cpu without replacing the motherboard (intel changes the compatibility more often).
Your current motherboard should accept the 5600X/5800X and even the new ones later this year.

So it depends on what you do and how long you keep your cpu/motherboard :)
