New pilot help - frustrated, when does the game get fun?

Just curious. Why is no one mentioning winning the interdiction minigame to avoid interdictions. I never do the trhottle down to submit method. I just follow the blue verctor until I evade the interdiction and go about my merry way. Much prefer that over to submitting and FSD out of normal space.
i mentioned it - that this should be trained and yaw be replaced by a combination of roll and pitch, because that is vital to win the interdiction "game". As well as choosing the right speed and reverting power. just saying - i did.

It's the best way to shake off npc interdictions, period. Best way to learn is to do it in a little ship first.

Yes. Although for some reason supercruise assist within systems sometimes just fails to decelerate and I need to manually decelerate and come around, try again, or just swear and do it manually.

I like auto docking. I am rubbish at manually docking, I keep hitting into things. I can enter the hanger fine but setting down is terrible and I get fined.
Put your landing gear down early - it makes your ship go more slowly and makes it easier to land.

actually the beginning was extremely fun for me. Explore all the possibilities you have. No need to learn all in 3 days. A Lot of good tips here.
I played last 3 years ago - and deleted my save game to start newly. A lot has changed to make the first experience for a newbie better than it was - videos, better training missions and so on - it just has to be used.

i was soooooo "noob" again - took me quite a while to figure out how to launch - forgot all the keys and had reset my key bindings as well. The default key bindings are pretty terrible though - this should be made better for newbies.

Most give this advice to deal with getting interdicted by CMDRs in Open.
It's not anywhere near as effective in Open, Npc's just aren't all that good at interdiction, not even Elite ranked ones.

9 times out of 10 CMDRs will get you every time, best to just submit to them (unless you are like me, I just like to make it as difficult as I can.

Just out of curiosity - what would submitting get me? (i presume getting killed)

If you don't beat the interdiction (likely), you will have a length FSD reboot. If you submit, you don't have a lengthy FSD reboot. So, better odds of escape. Once you submit, you high wake to a different system.

I didn't get it at first. I tried the single player training stuff first (I think those training things might be different now, there was only combat available at the time), but decided it was too hard, and didn't log in again for about a month. Next time, I went straight in, still finding it hard. Got major damage jumping to a white dwarf, and couldn't figure out what I was doing wronf. Had some issues with figuring out supercruise (why was I hardly moving). This was all very frustrating. Oh, and then I ran out of fuel and couldn't jump to another system. Waited for it to run out, because I hadn't found the self destruct option.

I think once I got some upgraded modules, it was better for me. Cash wasn't as easily available to noobs then, and I wasn't on the forum yet. Honestly, when I first upgraded from the sidewinder was when I was better about it. (for me, I had an Adder before getting a Cobra. I think it took me about a month before I could get the Cobra).

This game has a lot going on. More than naysayers tend to say, and what you get out of it tends to depend on finding out what you want from it. Try different things, and don't rush too much. My grind to get up to an Asp with a decent explorer setup was probably the dullest experience I had in game. It seemed to be forever to get there (doubt it's as bad now).

I picked up a couple of bounties before I realised what I was doing too. Died every time. Again, that was before the whole crime and pumishment changes, so I can't really expalin how it works now.

I do hope you stick around, more players, better galaxy.

Getting a HOTAS, developing the right button binds for your play style & plenty of practice makes such a difference to manual docking.

This is a little clip I made of speed docking the other day...

There is one training mission in the ring area of a planet - combat mission - but the target ship doesn't attack until you attack it. this is pretty good to learn how to keep the target always in focus - without to fight until this has been learned. That target is pretty weak so it is a good starting point for learning how to control your ship in combat.

That training mission is as well good for learning to fly with FA off.

Lol, you are as reckless as I was 3 years ago - steaming full ahead into the station. :D

i recognized, that you turn the station so that you have the green position lights to your right - is this your way to memorize where your landing pad is?

I don't like queueing...

And I turn it that way mostly so I have a vague idea of where traffic might come from
