New Player a Few Questions Please

I have ED Live installed which I purchased years ago and never played. I'm interested in getting into the game now and want to play in VR. Some questions:

1 - Upgrade to Odyssey - If I do this after playing Live for awhile will I lose my progress when I upgrade?

2 - I have a better than average PC - I can play Live in VR on High with very good framerates. Is the loss in performance when going to Odyssey going to make the game unplayable. Its hard to tell the current state of VR performance in Odyssey. Most of the info I've seen is from 3 years ago and I'm not sure how much performance has improved.

2 - Odyssey brings the ability to go on foot. It seems that VR is not supported when playing on foot? What happens then when you leave your ship? Can you play at all in VR?

No. If you upgrade to Odyssey you just gain access to the stuff Odyssey provides - atmospheric planets and on foot gameplay. Your CMDR is the same. What you're thinking of might be the seperation between Legacy and Live, but if you are already on live, this isn't an issue.

There is no difference in regards to the game engine between Horizons Live and Odyssey live, it is the same client. Odyssey settlements are pretty tough on the system in VR though as long as any NPCs are alive.

When you leave the ship, the game switches to a virtual 2D screen in a gray VR space. Some people seem to switch to flatscreen when going on foot, personally I stay in VR and play on that virtual screen.
