New Player question about playstyles

Maybe we should petition Fdev to include a totally optional 'hardcore' mode.

-lose exp data, mats, cargo, activated crew, all unauthorized engineered modules upon ship destruction

-system sec actively hunts you in systems that you're wanted

-PG and Solo modes closed

-ship insurance %10

-FA is always off

-no SC or docking computers

-standard soundtrack is replaced by the album human by legendary death metal band Death

Oh and

-rotational correction is always off

That could actually be fun on a second character... but unfortunately, us PC peons only get one per account, and I'm not buying a second account for it.

As someone who has played for a long time but only recently started to play PvP my experience has been great. People have been excellent and generally good humoured.

Despite this I would say my ship which is fully engineered and very strong in a PvE setting has been well and truly found out against human players.

My thought for anyone starting would be learn the game in solo first, but don't take anything like the time I took to get into open play. Turns out it's not just my ship that is not up to scratch but, ahem, operator error is a problem too. It shows how little is learnt by playing in Solo.

Be prepared to get blown away from time to time and accept it for what it is. Interact with people and see that most are great. Don't expect to run before you can walk and for me I've spent an astonishing amount of hours playing Elite.

So I'm looking to get into elite dangerous, and one of the things I've been unable to find out is how PVP interacts with PVE. Are there dedicated PVP servers and dedicated PVE servers, or are there PVP zones in the PVE servers, or how does the interaction work? If I kit out a ship on a PVE server, will I be able to bring it into PVP? And if it gets blown up in PVP will it get blown up in PVE? thanks for the help.
There isn't really any dedicated PvP servers or zones outside of CQC. Basically PvP is a thing that is always allowed. If someone else can see you, they can shoot at you.

You can opt in or out of human interaction altogether by choosing Open or Solo mode, but it's all still the same gameworld. Choosing solo mode makes other players not exist for you. Choosing Open will populate your game with other players. There is no way to play with other human players without opening yourself up to the possibility that they will shoot you.
