New Player question X52 + TrackIR (plus a Youtube video!)

Hi all, I'm new here, I just picked up the Premium Beta and I have to say, I am REALLY impressed. I can't wait to be able to start trading and exploring!

I had a quick question regarding sub menus that I am a little unclear on. I'm using a TrackIR which seems to work pretty much straight away (apart from having to invert the axis) I also picked up an X52 pro (especially for ED) Which I am also currently using the default control setup profile which also seems great. The one thing I am a little confused about is how to navigate the in-cockpit UI system.

Any tips on how to navigate those menus using an x52 with the default profile would be really appreciated.

Naturally I'm happy to modify them but I still feel like I am getting to grips with the basics and didn't want to remap a button I would later realise were set up for an obvious reason in the defaults.

I also decided to record a little gameplay video and upload it to YouTube, naturally I'm only a newbie so my flying leaves much to be desired. I just wanted to share it really as the combo of the new joystick and the TrackIR is a pretty blissful combination! Link to video

I would assume that in order to focus on the UI panels you need to "toggle head look" and to use "UI focus mode". Of course you can use Target/Systems/Radar panels key bindings. With the final release of PB you won't need them as you will be able to focus on UI panels using TrackIR.

No idea about using the stick and tracker, but handy tip, when you are in the control screen in E-D, if you hit the button you are intending to use, it flashes up the current binding (if any) at the bottom of the screen, so you can check for a button assignment before you commit.

Saves you removing a binding you wanted to keep.

With the TrackIR all you have to do is look a the side panels and then you can scroll and select with whatever the default buttons are on the x52. (I actually have the x52 but I can't recall what the buttons are, lol!). If you don't look far enough left or right, though, the side panels will not be interactable. You need to be looking pretty much right at them and then they'll be active.

Hope that helps.

I selected the x52Pro preset and found out that by pressing the pinkie then povs and trigger can by used to change view on the panels and scroll the tabs/rows.

This was implemented in Alpha 2.0 only. Premium Beta is Alpha 1.1.

Ok I think I have it.
In case others are joining and trying to figure out how to navigate the menus with X52 pro in the Alpha combat demo that comes with Premium Beta, (regardless of the Track IR) here are the default controls.

  • Hold down the pinky trigger, press left or right on the POV1 (thats the one under your right thumb) that will select either menu. - Note: you have to release BOTH buttons in order for the action to be registered.
  • You can then navigate around using the POV1 and the main trigger (button one) to select things.
  • In order to switch to a different tab in the UI, you use left and right on the Throttle Hat
  • In order to leave the UI and go back, press the pinky trigger again.

I suppose I'll have to get used to the new system on the 30th
