New Player Questions

Hey

im a new player and looking to ask a few questions, I come from Eve online so they will be related to that.

when you mine, do real players buy it, or is it just sold to the nether? In Eve online you sell ore and anything else to real players

how popular is this game? There is nowhere I can find to see who is online, how many players, is there no stats at all?

do you see a lot of real people flying around or is it only ever so often?

is the game highly affected by players, like eve online is?

ta

a) Sold to the nether.
b) No actual figures have been released by FD, however Steam charts might give you an idea (as well as many other popular trackers). No way to see who is online other than friends you make in game. No stats that I know of
c) Depends where you are. This is a real 1:1 galaxy so space is HUGE. Spend time around the bubble near community goals / PvP-Combat hotspots and yes you will see plenty. Spend time in the outback and you may not see anyone for months.
d) There is the background sim that reflects player actions and enriches the galaxy but not the same way as in EVE - It's different :)

Mined products (just like all trade) goes to the nether, more or less. There's some background simulation impact, however, depending on where you sell the stuff...

Popularity is something only FD knows for real, anyone else can only guess. And no, there's no kind of stats visible. The only players you definitely know to be online or offline are those whom you add as friends.

What comes to seeing lots of people depends a huge lot on where you fly. The galaxy is ginormous, Eve's space is but a drop in an ocean in size comparison.

But to give some ballpark to "popularity": http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/01/14/elite-dangerous-has-sold-14-million-copies

Hi,

1) As above.
2) There are a few indicators in game but no overarching view. We can see for example that X ships have passed through a system in one day, although each ship that passes is counted so if one player goes in/out 50 times that counts as 50. There is also community goals (new ones every week) which generally see a good 3000+ participants, there's also player events like the 1000+ that went on the 60+ hour trip to the other side of the galaxy.
No hard figures but the game can feel crowded or dead depending on where you go.
3) Covered in #2
4) Very different atmosphere to Eve, less player influenced it has to be said. But much friendlier in general, although there is a ton of PvP if you go to the right places.

Came from EVE myself, a long time ago. It's a very different game and you don't make anywhere the kind of impact you would have done in EVE, but that is by design. In some cases it's better for it.

The market is not real in Elite, so it's sold to the nether. The game is reasonably popular and is improving slowly, there are always exciting changes on the horizon. (no pun intended).

If you want player interaction, always play in open - even then don't expect a lot of chatter, having come from EVE you'll be no stranger to ganking so this happens in Elite also.

Lastly if you want some help or someone to show you the ropes PM me and we'll sort something out, otherwise fly safe CMDR.

Every so often there are Community Goals, which players definitely affect. As each tier gets completed, new rewards happen. For example, when the Station Build in HS3447 was completed, all tiers were completed, so the station has all functions fitted, and Players got a higher Bonus payout. I helped four new players get on the ladder, and all of them got 1Mcr when the CG ended. They all got themselves Cobra MkIIIs.
