New rift but can't install rift setup software

Not an ED problem. But a Oculus Rift problem and wondered if anyone has any idea here, as Oculus useless.
Please help. Just got Rift today. Setup file downloads. As soon as click on it there's a slight pause then it fails with a sign saying. "oculus setup has stopped working" I've tried all the work throughs I can find on their forum. Windows all up to date, nvidia up to date, C++ and Net framework fine. Tried file in different drives. also /bypassHotfixCheck...fire walls and antivirus. Nothing worked.

I've an Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40GHz
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8Z77-V LX (LGA1155)
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
ForceWare version: 384.76

It is usually the ones you have tried. Couple of thoughts. Run as admin. Move your usb connects to different ports. If no one else posts the solution that works then contact Oculus support. I am sure they can get to the bottom of this as many have gotten this error. I seem to recall it myself but it was so long ago that I can't recall my particular solution. I think it was that I didn't have the visual c++ 2013 redists installed. I do believe it has to be that year's package, which you could re-install again (even if you have it) in case it is somehow corrupted. In any case don't loose faith. Oculus support is pretty quick to respond.

- Disconnect your Rift/Sensors/Controllers from your PC. The setup asks you to connect these in the initial setup procedure.
- Try downloading the software from another network, maybe it's corrupt on a proxy server half way to your pc. Try LTE with your mobile phone for example.
- Right click the setup.exe and choose "run as adminstrator". Shouldn't be necessary but it might help.

Good tip. Now that you mention it not plugging in anything until prompted during setup sounds familiar. This may have, indeed, been how I resolved the error. It was so long ago.

I've not even got to the pleasure of taking it out the box as I knew the software helps with plugging in. The software just won't start. And oculus seem really bad at looking at anything. Also it's tough to find where to post problems. And yes I've run as admin. Thanks

There should be a log file file created which captures the error. I forget where it is though. Check either the oculus directory AppData/

I found the file and after studying it spotted it mentioned Tablet in part of the waffle. I unplugged my Wacom tablet and that fixed it. Thanks for the replies and help. And I must add.....WOW!!!! it looks great!!!!! :)

Yet another unique solution to an error that may plague others for similar reasons. Glad you were able to track it down and are now able to enjoy VR. Enjoy

Great clue from vanfanel. Deserves some rep.
