New rift CV1 User.
Although there are already post about first impressions, this is my
first short impression.

i7 4770 cpu
GTX 970 MSI gaming
MG279Q IPS 144 Hz monitor 2560x1440
Thrustmaster hotas.

Nice quality box and rift with extra's.
Easy to connect IF you have enough usb ports 3.0
( I have also connected a camera, mouse, keyboard, 2 printers and a sound system :D )

When first time using the rift in the demo : BIG pixels :(, less godrays.
Coming from my 27" screen with sharp details it's a shock.

But - in E D - after some time, the look and feel to be IN the game is breathtaking.
A 2D screen or 3D VR is a completely different game experience.
Everybody has the WOW feeling and it definitely is there.
The strange feeling looking at your body, arms and hands in the cockpit.
The surprise they do not follow you're IRL hands when moving is a bit hilarious.
You're ship, the cockpit, the stars, the planets are BIG, really big. Also the enemy is BIG [woah]
The sound from the headphones in the rift is great.

ATM I'm trying to get a sharper image and doing the training missions; there is
one extra training in VR in a type 9 ( I think ).
Frontier did a splendid job implementing VR [up]

Is it worth the price tag of 699 euros ? Yes if you can afford it. Because after this one you want to
buy a CV2 or maybe 3 or 4 later on with better specs [noob] .

In most cases you also have to spend some extra cash for a better GPU or CPU.

I have very similar rig to you. Exact same GFX card.

Download Oculus SDK and after starting Oculus Home App, run DebugTool and set pixel density to 1.3.

In game, put settings to VR Low and slide the model viewing distance to around 1/3.

This gives me very sharp clarity and consistently high frame rates.

This actually was my first reaction too... I loved the effect, but i was a bit disappointed by the graphic quality in games. After doing what Arithon suggested, it instantly went to a big YESS! Text is easily readable, game graphics are much sharper and clearer. I also found the experience getting much smoother, when i disabled cpu parking. You can do that in your energy saving settings. Just set minimum CPU usage to 100%. The game gets more fluid around stations and planets and those grey flashes you read about here on the forums are solved by that too.

I own a GTX970 as well and it handels a pixel per display setting of 2.0 quite well in Elite using VR high with shadows to ultra.
