New Ship - Cobra MkIV functional clone

I agree with you on a couple of points here:

Mini Python, 100%, that is the way I see it. Like a practise model for the bigger ship.

Also: I use mine as a passenger runner, three cabins and 20 berths; it is a great little credit maker for less than half a million re-buy. What's not to like? Apart from the boost speed of your average tortoise, just like the Python. :D

I also have to say that when I brought the L.P., I believed, the Cobra IV would be waiting for me somewhere, like the Friday paint jobs and not an exclusive I had to buy. I don't really hold with exclusive 'offers' as they are like 'pay to play' add ons. Yes it is nice to be told, 'you are getting a paint job because.....whatever', but to have it as an offer: No thanks. Using the word; exclusive, in the sales pitch, has unfortunately, forced it to become that and to break that contract, could cost FD a lot of issues.

Nice ship, bad marketing, in my opinion.

By meta-ship like the Python what I meant was that the Python is the biggest medium pad ship, which is something worth having if you need to go to an outpost currently. If there were small pad only docks the Cobra MkIV (and hopefully LWB Hauler ;)) would fill a similar role, it would become the go-to hauling ship. It does act like a mini-Python in other ways though, particularly with it's 8 slots.

I agree the Cobra MkIV was marketed ambiguously, and those ambiguities were not addressed well. It is in the past now though, we are all now aware of how it played out.

In all seriousness, while I'd like to see both a Cobra MkV and a Cobra MkI in the game, if it's functionally identical to the MkIV why would Falcon DeLacey produce such a ship? It could be another Cobra but I think it would make more in-universe sense for another manufacturer to introduce a competing ship.

Oh, I forgot you don't have a Mk IV (no pun intended). Dear God and Braben, DO NOT make it identical. Honestly it's very meh. No need to be identical- A simple change of something +/- 5% will allow them to proclaim it a new Cobra.

And by naming it Cobra XXX they would defuse so much bitterness. And you would have the ship you want. As I said, win-win.

Only trying to help in the broader picture too.

The game can be soo buggy, why not make a bug that has it pop up every now and then for everyone to buy?

As a self proclaimed Cobra MK IV lover I think any exclusivity outside of cosmetic items is a bad idea.

The Cobra MK IV is a very interesting ship that IMO done a great job of getting the 'feel' of a Cobra without being just a tougher, faster more versatile MK III. And once you get to know how to fit/fly it, it becomes something very unique and pretty darn beastly.

I personally would prefer the MK IV to be unlocked (maybe put it behind an Alliance rank or some such pseudo barrier) and everyone who had exclusive access to it before get some form of flight suit or decal to proclaim their loyalty.

Edit: The current MK III ship kit almost lets you replicate the looks of the MK IV, I know as I would often subconsciously make mine look like my MK IV until my daughter pointed it out. But the looks would give you the 'feel' of a MK IV...

Some players missed out on the Cobra MkIV & while it's not a great ship it has some benefits that can make it desirable.

It has more internal module slots than any other small pad ship,
It can potentially carry more more cargo any other small pad ship,
It's the cheapest ship with 8 internal module slots, making it a good mining ship.

If we were to have small pad only docks, the Cobra MkIV would become a meta-ship, a mini-Python if you like.

I propose a functionally identical but different looking ship be made available for all to purchase. A mini-Asp, a maxi-Diamondback, that kind of idea, but all it's stats would be identical to the Cobra MkIV.

This retains the Cobra MkIV's exclusivity but overcomes any advantage gained or lost by making it available to all. The Cobra MkIV paintjobs etc would be completely unaffected, everyone (whether they have access to the Cobra MkIV or not) gets to enjoy the objective benefits of owning one, overcoming the exclusivity deal.

As a C IV owner, I would be fine with releasing the pig. Just give me a decal that replaces it as an exclusive.

Why do we need another variant especially one that clones an existing ship??

Do you guys not have the imagination to want NEW stuff????

Everyone always wants more of the same, halflife 3, impossibles 2 yet another poxy starwars movie, all that effort going into the same old same old time after time.

whatever happened to people wanting originality and creativity in their entertainment?

There are only so many workj hours in the week, lets have the devs making new, interesting stuff not making tiny changes to existing things to make a slightly different version of an old one.

I want a small-pad ship with the options that are possible with that many optional slots.

They locked that function behind the backing wall, which I missed, after getting burned on a few other early-access catastrophes.

I'm perfectly fine with locked cosmetics. This is locked function, an entire ship inaccessible for no ingame reason, almost pay-2-win (but not quite, since you can't just throw money at it now).

I've read mixed reviews of the Cobra Mk 4 but yes I'd like to try one. But no I do not believe a limited or special issue should be relieved to everyone. Then to those chosen few, it would not be special. As OP INDICATED, Perhaps a new ship of similar capabilities.

They DID promise the cobra4 would be the special snowflake for the special snowflakes, apparently. People should keep their word.

However, they didn't promise that new ships wouldn't be added. And hey, everything I've ever read has said the Cobra4 disappointed them. If they release a better small ship, it'll be a shot in a the arm for newer-player miners (and probably anyone else), people can have their promised exclusive, and still go out and grab the new ship themselves.

Just make a Cobra MK5 - which addresses the problems of the MK4, and modernises the MK3.

Same base as the MK4 (same weapon and utility slots); give it 7 optional slots (so in-between the other two, and makes it "different"); same core modules; but it's made out of the same stuff as the Anaconda (i.e.: cut in half the MK4's weight) = instant speed increase, and jump range increase. Then give it a premium price, due to all the unseen modernising, call it 10 million credits base.

The idea is to give players that missed out on the Cobra MkIV the opportunity to buy a functionally identical ship while maintaining the Cobra MkIV's exclusivity.

I'm all in favour of more ships though :)

Or you know... Just release the MK IV and laugh at people who get salty because the normies can now play with all the toys?

The funniest part will be all the normies who whine about the MK IV all over again, whilst all the other folks who don't have one, even when they can have one, enjoy the schadenfreude from sudden-onset karma.

Life comes at you fast.

I too think that the OP has made a good point - gie us a ship like whut they said Jimmy!

(I have the CMkIV but not on all accounts.)

Could be a super-sized Adder - the Puff Adder, anyone? :)

.... I'll get my coat....
An upgraded Adder build, but a duplicate of the Cobra MK 4? That might work...

Tho to be honest, the MK 4 is kinda meh. The only good use I have gotten for it is a small-pad 64 tonne cargo hauler.
