New ship: Gutamaya Corsair

A long, long time ago when the World of Warcraft was young, people asked the same question about the Druid class. The Druid could shapeshift into a warrior (bear form), a thief (cat form) or stay in humanoid form and be a healer.

So people asked "What is it's superiority?" since the pure warrior class could still fight better, the thief class had stronger skills and the same went for a pure healer. The Druid could only be 75-80% as good as those pure classes were.

Well it turned out in a tough raid, your tank (warrior) could die, your thief (squishy class) suddenly fall and your healer run out of mana. The druid could step into any of those roles because having 75% is far better than 0%.

In ED, your best medium ship for a role may, for reasons, not be available or not be available in time. And that's why the Corsair exists, it's the Druid class of ED.
When I played RPGs when I was younger (eye of the behgolder 1-2-3) there were standard classes: Mage, Cleric, Warrior, and Thief.
If someone had 2 abilities, he had them only at 50%, not 100%.

And yes I didn't play WOW, but when Warcraft1 came out, I was surprised and said - they improved Dune.

EOTB (and it's grandparent dungeon master were amazing games , (legend of grimrock is a worthy modern equivalent)

also loved dune, dune 2 , C&C and warcraft 1+2

then warcraft went all multiplayer and I lost all interest.

really? I stand corrected then. sorry about that. I don't have one (don't have any of the new ships yet) but I was almost certain the python MK2 was still a big hauler. my mistake
Yeah, the Python 2 is a combat vessel, down to its class 6 power distributor, but with heavier power demands than the Python, or even the Mamba, or FDL, which limits its loadout capabilities. This is going to have a class 7 PD, and weapon thirst midway between the Python/KraitMkII and the PMkII, but with bigger thrusters than any of them. It will drain the capacitor faster than the old multiroles, but maybe not as quickly as the PMKII...

With fewer internal slots than other multirole ships, though, is this one really multirole? It's going to be yet another combat ship, more versatile than the military mediums (fed/alliance), but not as suited to non-combat tasks as the Kraits, Clipper, Python, or Type 8. Except it will be more fun to fly.

I think it's going to be the perfect multi-role ship for me, with enough internals to kit out for handling a variety of missions without re-configuration - such as:

  • Data Courier
  • Salvage / Black Box Recovery
  • Planetary Scan
  • Megaship Scan / Hack
  • Pirate Massacre
  • Assassination

Plus enough space for Guardian FSD / Fuel Scoop for decent jump range and "go anywhere" overall range and probably at least one SRV (ideally I want to fit one of each on it) for some exploration fun / ground missions. And probably enough cargo space for decent numbers of limpets for material gathering or indulging in some light rares trading.

Which is kinda what I enjoy doing - a bit of everything!

Only things it couldn't handle in that configuration would be large cargo missions or mining but for those you could outfit it different if you really wanted.

What are you talking about? It has the same number of internal slots as the Python and they are better sized than the Python. It has one more internal slot than the Krait II. This makes it the best medium ship in terms of internal slots.

It has a serious flaw, It is imperial, and Python is not.
Eternal battle, Type-9 vs. Imperial Cutter, now Python vs. Gutamaya Corsair. :)

buying it for Arx

Let the module stripping begin!
Check. Boy was the Cutter "fun" on unengineered 7As landing at Arque...
You can use the Cutter for playing with the modules based on the internals frontier communicated

Check. Evil cackling has been heard while planning the engineered effect cascade FVP piracy build (frustration vs player)... Reverb cascade + drag munitions + scramble spectrum + mass lock munition + FSD interrupt + ...

question: As I didn't see if anyone mention (or even consider this)
any idea what weight the Corsair hull will be?
(asking cause a rough number on the weight for all the core and optional internals will be about 600tons depending on setup. and the minimum mass bracket for 7A thrusters is 1080tons, so if the hull was 400 tons then the ship would have no issue going its maximum cursing speed)

That's one of the unknowns. In 6 days we'll know.

6 PA thermal conduit build with 3 of them being SRB for me. Not sure who's going to melt first, me or the thing I'm shooting at, but something's going boom.

well... hopefully the hull isn't more than 900t or that size 7a engine will be useless when you have a heavy combat setup

Edit: useless as in slowed by crossing over the optimal mass bracket, I know the max mass of a size 7 engine is waaaay higher

That would be deep into large ship territory. Only 4 ships have a hull muss of 900t or greater (though technically the Anaconda should too). Of all the medium ships the Gunship and Dropship are the heaviest at 580t.
