Ships New Ship - Turner Class - (Some love for the Alliance)

The Alliance probably needs it's only military missions, and also a ship. And I recommend the Turner Class, inspired from FFE:

It will have a 320 Ton hull mass with:

Power plant: Class 6
Thrusters: Class 6
FSD: Class 6
Life Support: Class 5
Power Distributor: Class 6
Sensors: Class 6
Fuel Tank: Class 5

It will be a fast ship, with a cruising speed faster than a Clipper or Orca pace but with a slightly slower boost. And whilst it's top speed will be one of the best in the game (if not the best), it's manoeuvrability and acceleration will be more average. It will be very good at going fast in a straight line.

It will have 7 hardpoints. A huge hardpoint underneath but near the nose, four medium hardpoints, two wide on top of each wing, and two centred underneath each wing, and two small hardpoints, one above and one below the ship on it's mid section, which if turreted provides an overlapping arc of fire over the rear.

It will also have 5 utility mounts.

It will have 12 internal compartments, of the following sizes:

2 Class 1
2 Class 2
2 Class 3
2 Class 4
2 Class 5
1 Class 6
1 Class 7

It'll be a pricey ship, around the 100-200 million mark.

A bit lighter on cargo space and firepower than other ships in it's class, it'll however be the explorer's dream ship, with the longest jump range in the game. Whilst the internal compartments are small, there are plenty of them for all sorts of bits and pieces you'd like to take with you. And whilst not a dedicated passenger ship, it will have a few compartments that are passenger cabin compatible (although dedicated taxiers would be better with a passenger ship).

What do you think?

I'd like to see the Turner class return and be an alliance vessel.

I'd probably have it more in the Python/FDL range but as a dedicated explorer rather than the Anaconda/Corvette/Cutter range.

I want that weird tail back though.

I'm not sure the Turner class would be fair for players to fly if it at all resembles the FFE version.

There were other AAAI ships too though.

So it's going to have major power issues if you use it for combat, but it'll be one of the best traders in the game due to the cargo capacity, speed and the jump range?

Well it's got a Class 6 power plant, which is a class higher than the FDL, so it's got decent grunt. If you look at it's power output, it's quite similar to the Clipper, with it's Class 6 power plant and Class 6 thrusters. The idea would be is that you could fit a big weapon on the huge mounts, but if you did that you wouldn't also be able to spam it with beam lasers.

The cargo capacity isn't the best, it's actually only slightly greater than the Python (312 for the Turner v 292 for the Python). If you felt the amount of cargo space was too high, you could downgrade the Class 7 slot to a Class 6 slot. That would put the Turner's cargo at well below the Python. In which case you then my want to price it in the T9 range.

So it has decent compartments, it has high jump range, it has high speed, lots of hardpoints, small internals, yet high base stats?

This is a dream I WANT EVERYTHING ship. Cut everything down by a factor. And don't name it Turner if it can't turn.

Why would the alliance's first ship be anything other than logistical?

7 hardpoints is too much for a class 6 distributor. Three class 3 would be nice. The internal compartments are too large and too many, an explorer vessel doesn't need that much.

I can't wait for such a ship to grace Elite Dangerous one day. It would benefit the game immensely. But it would be good if they balanced the ship properly. And in fact I would urge such a ship to be one of the later ships to launch. Somewhere around the time we already have atmospheric planetary landings, ship avatars and walking inside stations and surface cities. And once the Thargoids are introduced.

It would be a good way of extending the life of the game. I imagine that the Thargoids would reside a part of space quite far away from human controlled space. And this would be a good way of introducing new and experimental ships that can get to Thargoid space quickly and able to make hyperspace jumps in the 10s or hundreds of light years at a time.

I would say the last pic is the most polished version of the Turner class, and worthy of the quality we should come to expect from the team.

This game desperately needs an Interceptor/Explorer, and the Turner would be a fantastic addition. I'd go a different way:

price: ~ 6 million
Type: interceptor
Maneuverability: 7
Top Speed: 284m/s
Boost speed: 434m/s
Shields: 270 MJ
Armor: 190
Hull Mass: 150t
Fuel Capacity: 16t
Unladen Range: 11.99Ly
Pad size: Small
Hardpoints:
4x Utility Hard Points
1x Large Hard Point
2x Small Hard Points
Internals:
2x size 4 compartment
2x size 2 compartments
1x size 1 compartments

Outfitting -
Bulkheads: size 8 - Lightweight Alloy
Reactor Bay: size 4 - E4
Thruster Mounting: size 4 - E4
Frame Shift Drive: size 4- E4
Enviromental Control: size 3 - E3
Power Coupling: size 5 - E5
Sensor suite: size 4 - E4
Fuel Storage: size 4 - 16t tank
Internal Compartment: size 4 - shield gen E4
Internal Compartment: size 4 - cargo rack size 3 (8t)
Internal Compartment: size 2 - empty
Internal Compartment: size 2 - cargo rack size 2 (4t)
Internal Compartment: size 1 - basic discovery scanner

Looking for something that can jump 23+LY fully armed, so missions like PVP around the Core (damn pirates jumping explorers) are possible. Currently, only the Asp has that capability, but you have to stage the shield in the 6 slot, the scoop in the five, and you have to stack SB's to make a fighter out of her.

Yes we really need an Interceptor/Explorer. Fortunately its still early days. Who knows how many ships will make it into the game in coming months and years. I have a hunch the 10 years FD plan on committing to ED will prove to be quite fruitful in terms of ships and a rich assortment of ship classifications.

I always thought the Imperial ships in the game currently look rather like the old Quest.
