New ships and their prices... WHY?

no thoughts on the fdl, but i was waiting to see the pricing on the vulture, as i was interested in a combat ship a step up from the viper. for 22 mil, just stock, i'm no longer interested in the vulture. too pricey for a pure combat ship, when i look at the risk versus reward. i may experiment in using my asp again, with higher spec equipment than the last time i tried combat in it, or just go back to using the viper for combat and asp for everything else.

Something you may not be aware of, the vulture costs about the same to same to fully equip as an asp overall, i even think its a bit cheaper. Just the base price of the Vulture that is a bit over the top. After flying it though, i have to say its worth the money once you get the build right. It is deadly.

Keeping mind there are more ships to come. It's a very likely possibility that the gaps in any given disciplines ship progression will be closed by Amy number of them. If FD had just shoved the vulture or fdl into those slots to make people happy it would have been a disservice to those ships.

This is the reality of live development. Give you barebones early mid and endgame then fill everything in as it comes online. Sometimes it feels out of order if you're not in the right place in your own progression....but others will be.

I know there are more ships to come, but why are they putting in the ships at the higher end of the price range first? Why not give us one high priced ship and one low priced, or mid priced?

Vulture - a fighter inferior than ASP.

With cost suitable for space truckers it definitely not for combat pilots, along with FDL.

Do we need more cheap-ish ships? Definitely.

Are these two ships overpriced? Hell no! They are both awesome and worth every penny.
I just survived a battle with three commanders in Viper, Cobra and Asp in my new A+B Vulture. I didn't win, true, but so didn't they. It was a clear draw (If I was a better-than-crap pilot, I would have won) And their ship's combined price was bigger than my Vultue's. :)

Not saying the FDL or Vulture don't warrent their price tags, what i can't understand is why they put them in now? Why not give us more mid range ships or low cost ships first, so that people new to the game, have more options availible to them

The prices especially the Vulture are ridiculous. Yes it isn't as expensive to fully equip the Vulture but it bl***y costs 22 million! Even on the basic Vulture the insurance would be roughly 800,000, that's basic spec and with 25% off. Imagine what it's going to be when you start equipping it?

If the Vulture was 2-3 Million I could afford one and would take me ages to upgrade it as I'm a casual bounty hunter player. It would give me something to work towards and I'd have a reason to play at the minute though apart from trying out the new wings feature with my brother there is nothing. I've tried trading and find it exceptionally boring, even combat can get tired after a while in the same ship with the same weapons.

This ^

Both new ships are awesome. At least the Vulture is priced perfectly reasonably (not sure about the FDL but lore says it is a vanity object, so it must be expensive).

I understand that players with fewer credits are frustrated. A load of new, cheaper ships in between Cobra / Asp / Clipper would certainly be nice and add a lot of variety to gameplay.

However, I honestly dont understand people who claim the Vulture should be in the price range of the Asp. The Vulture absolutely DOMINATES the Asp. I fought a player Asp during Betapocalypse. My Vulture dropped his shields in a matter of seconds. After that I put away my weapons and spent a good while just evading the Asps line of fire and attempted to ram him to death (almost succeeded too. Got him down to 30% hull before things got slightly hairy for the Vulture). The Vulture is a beast, demanding that it be priced below 10 mil is just unreasonable..

I actually flew the FDL in the Beta. It is an excellent ship that can take a lot of punishment and dish it out, even with sub-standard equipment.

It is worth it's current price though? I'm not sure. The one thing I didn't really test out was it's profile/size. An Anaconda is not a meager target by any stretch, and as such has easily target-able weak areas.

The FDL seems somewhat smaller, is quite a bit faster and more maneuverable and has excellent survivability. And it has a Huge mount.

I'm still thinking it over myself. But I'd certainly take a FDL to war over a Anaconda, any day, you will never convince me otherwise. A Python though? That's a harder question, I will admit.

It's cheaper than the Python, though.

My maxed combat Python costs 165m. The maxed FDL costs 120m or so. The FDL only becomes more expensive than the Python when you equip armour more expensive than military. Which makes total sense given the FDL has specialised armour that's the best defense against small weapons.

The price is fine. Same for the vulture.

What isn't fine is credits earning balance for the career these two ships are used for.

FDL is armed with a class 4 anaconda size weapon. Fast as a clipper. And as solid as a Python. It is available at the gold price.

Vulture is an eagle with Clipper weapon ! Good price.

=> it deserves its value for both of them.
