New ships?

Hi, If this has been asked before I do apologize.

Can I buy some of the other ships or do I have to do that in the game?
I ask because I can't see in the store any possibilities to do so. Also If I buy the $150,00 backer package do I get all the upgrades for ever after, or is it only to a certain limit?

cheers :)

Lysander,

Welcome commander, I'm afraid you have to do it in the game.

There are 5 available in the Beta and 25 are slated for the first release

Old school ;-)

And yes, if you join us for premium Beta you are done and dusted as far as upgrades are concerned, everything is included.

I think it says "major" expansions rather than "all".

I have no idea what that means.

Some clarification from Frontier weather premium backers will get absolutely all expansions that are released or just the big major ones like planetary landing and getting out of your seat and moving about would be nice. As for more ships I'm hoping for maybe a couple more at some point between the premium beta, regular beta and gamma. I am however prepared to wait for the full release to get more ships if Frontier are planning other things for the beta stages.

Those are the ones you want.

The minor expansions are things like Elite Dangerous Football Manager Expansion Pack, Elite Dangerous Katy Perry's sweet thangs and of course Elite Dangerous 'oh no more trumbles' which you can live without

My guess would be we don't get any DLC skins or other "minor" expansions that may be released - but that's pure conjecture based on the expansion model of other games in the past.

Cool thanks all for a quick reply, thats great can't wait to commandeer my ship he he..

Oh is there a lot of grinding in this game? I remember from the old days elite form the 80's that there was a bit of grinding in the game, buuut I loved the Elite from those good old days.

This is just the beginning
The first release of Elite: Dangerous will not mark the end of development.
We intend to continue expanding the game both with new content and new features. A good example of this is planetary landings. We have an ambitious goal for landings to include new gameplay and a rich variety of worlds to explore. To achieve our goal we want the planets to come to life. We also want to add leaving the ships so you can explore space stations or board enemy vessels or even just to look around your own. We intend to release small, free updates after launch, but major expansions including rich new features will be charged for, unless you have bought the expansion pass, or are one of the Kickstarter backers at the appropriate tier.

I think planetary landings and EVA expansions are included and would certainly be considered major. I think if they weren't there would be pitchforks.

So the free updates aren't included with my premium package? I have to accept them free like the regular freeloading scum? Outrageous!
