New SRVs

You're right about the dimensions being a big limiting factor, however a way around that would be to use the SLF bays for low altitude air dropping much larger ground vehicles.
As far as I can tell, this is the way to add larger SRVs. Unfortunately, since only 10 ships have a fighter bay this would prevent most ships from being able to use the larger SRVs. That said, half of the ships that wouldn't get the ability to use the larger SRVs would be small ships that would have no business deploying an SLF-sized vehicle in the first place.

While I am in favour of having larger SRVs deploy from the fighter bay, I think we should get more SRVs that can fit in the cargo hatch before we give larger ships even more capabilities that small ships don't have.

New SRVs are definitely a no-brainer.

Even better than new SRVs would be overcoming the limitations that prevent us using SRVs with multicrew and AI crew members.

Ideally, we should be able to drop in the SRV and have our crew members provide air support, encounter hostile NPC Scarabs near wrecks and at surface installations, and watch SRV traffic driving around at starports.

Check out the artwork book. That's pretty much my "bible" what was it coming to ED in the future.

Some nice SRV desings in there. Don't take everything in it as gospel as to how things will look exactly, but otherwise its has been a good guide so far. It "predicted" the Krait, and i'm pretty sure the Gecko is on the cards as well.

I'm all for a well-armed and armored standard size SRV + the other variants, so the big SRV's would be an additional option focused more toward heavy base assault or multicrewing a two seater SRV.

EDIT: or a straight up mech, like Exo squad...

Bigger size would be neat, but limiting it to the current dimensions doesn't break it. Might call for more min-maxing, though. The truck only carries cargo and maybe has a small rock breaking laser. The tank is weapons only with no cargo space.

I don't suppose...

...Naaaaah. :D

I just want SRV shields to work consistently with ship shields. Either they both stop collision damage or they don't. Losing SRV integrity because a tire bounced over a rock is unbelievable. Other SRV types would be cool, but not before there's more call for them via more diverse planetary terrain and less repetitive challenges.

I'm sure they could create a heavy tracked SRV within the dimensions of the Scarab. That'd be a start.

Something like the Warhammer 40k rhino with a turret

The SRV has one fundamental difference from space ships: It has to touch the ground. So the shield can protect the body but excludes the wheels. At least that is how I explain it to myself.

That's a good point. The "damage" occurring in a lot of cases could simply be the suspension impact torquing and getting less and less able to support the vehicle over time. But I think it would be great if they could differentiate between that sort of damage and impact to the rest of the SRV.

Come to think of it is there any way to check out the difference between weapons damage and ground damage? Is the weapon damage getting deflected/absorbed properly and the ground/wheel damage from impact getting through? And is the impact damage greater when the shields are down? I'm way out near Beagle Point right now and I can't spare an SRV to test this...
