New Steam Installation - where the hell are my file locations?

HD Failure.....New Install
Installed Steam, Downloaded ED, went to users\myname\local\appData\ ……. No Frontier Developments Folder

So where the hell do I place my saved Binds File?

Is there a different location now for new installations?

Ah....oops! Clean Steam install is different.
OK....where do i plonk my saved binds file (in with all the others) and is there a location for the StartPreset file?

\Frontier Development and \Frontier_Development directories do not exist......thats my issue.

I'm not intending starting Steam ED without knowing why they weren't created.

Folders and configuration files in the /users, /Documents or /MyGames etc folders are usually created by the game itself when it starts, not during installation. That's true for most games, delete them and the the game will restore default files on next launch (or Steam Cloud will donwload last saved custom files).

If you have your previous config and keybind files, create the folders in correct places yourself. The game should detect and use them.

StartPreset and other keybind files are in \Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Thanks for that, you've confirmed what I suspected. Just didn't want to leap without asking someone who had already done something like this.

As an aside.
There will be a lot of users who for what ever reason have to do a clean reinstall. It would have been nice if FD had plonked a "don't Panic" instruction on how to recover if you've saved your Binds and Control Files.

I saved mine on a stick. Reloaded the game. Went to the location to plonk them SCREAM …. no such sub directories.
I was left making enquiries here.....thanks very much for stopping my second heart attack by the way, and awaiting confirmation.

FD Instructions should have been:-
Saved your control files - don't worry.
Reinstall.
If you have chickened out and havent let the game recreate the location for your files just plonk them in yourself after creating the sub directories.
Run the game!

Might be a standard good practice for players from now on....save both these sub directories onto a stick, reinstall and copy back.

Thanks again.
