General New text to speech provider.

At the moment, the development of AI-based services is advancing rapidly. So are text to speech providers. One provider is currently outperforming everything else on the market.

I have taken this article from Galnet and simply copy-pasted it.

The result is impressive.

Would it be possible that this provider could be used as text to speech service in Elite Dangerous ?

I doubt that FD will change this for this game, but I have hopes that AI will revolutionize future video games.
Like for example in space sims being able to communicate with board systems or AI generated content & quests

The problem with AI conversation systems is that the developers can never predict what the AI will say. It has been known for AI systems to be sexist, racist or down right rude. The other thing is that the AI takes time to generate the response. @JackONeill , how long after you posted your text before it cam up with a response. Would you be prepared to wait that long for every response in the game. The other thing is that AI tends to just regurgitate stuff it has picked up on the internet. Imagine if it tapped into these forums. The game would be continually bad mouthing FDev and asking for ship interiors and new ships. I can't see FDev liking that.

At the moment, I am only interested in the text to speech component. For example, to read out Galnet messages during the flight.

ED does that already. Right hand panel, last pane. You can also get the addon EDDI to tell you when a new article gets published and auto read it. I tend not to use it because I'm concentrating on counteracting issues due to my bad flying and EDDI does a lot of other useful babbling. Too much talking going on, often at the same time gets confusing.

I know that, but have you listened to how bad it sounds compared to the one linked above ?

hey i was teached to tolerate the differences in humanity and so I do.
what's the difference about from an ai to a human?
if u say AI doesn't know better,maybe some individuals didn't knew better too.
I mean we all know there is no need for explanations or apologizes when saying.."Ah...I did my best..I didn't knew better."
I think humans can learn a lot from about their own behavior from AI.

Racism and sexism are the complete intolerance in the differences in humanity and therefore the complete opposite of what you are advocating.

Anyway, this is going totally off topic, so I'll stop discussing from now on.

Personally, I think the built in Galnet voice is pretty damned good for its task.

And speaking of AI voices, check this open source project. Seriously impressive what they have accomplished
