New Things in Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-55

Regardless of the purpose of the new messages, the fact we now have access to guardian tech is coincidental and cannot be ignored. Arming ourselves seems like a logical option at this stage.

I'd say it's not a coincidence and agree we're reaching the boiling point of the conflict.

Just a shame I still can't shoot for shi... shoot for shizzle.

Oh the life of an explorer, eh?

Link just spins since you're at target location (unless the instance bugs). No reaction of other devices or reaction of transmitter to audio.

This is looking like it's just an indicator that ground bases are sending out attack orders for stations. And maybe someone is attracting thargoids to these targets with the transmitters.
I agree but to test that hypothesis would require some co-ordination: if the Thargoid incursions were to be met with heavy resistance in just one of these systems, whilst the others were left more or less alone, then in one week we might see the effect: if the systems with little resistance suffer heavy damage but the system where resistance was strong suffers significantly less damage, then that would indicate that these structures are giving targeting orders to the Thargoid forces. If the reverse happens, then the Thargoids might instead be responding to our own hostility and the structures are sending scouts to these systems for other reasons. If none of the systems are attacked, then perhaps the Thargoids were looking for something there - but either did not find it or did not need to use force to accomplish their objective.
.
A shame we can't switch off or reprogram the transmitters, or hack the systems at the Thargoid structures to issue ceasefire commands... . (And where are those orders coming from and to what end are they being given? Trying to look at it from the tactical, military perspective, these incursions constitute a probing of our defensive capabilities...)

*sigh* And therein lies the root of the problem.

It's not shooting them that's the problem, it's defending against their formidable weaponry. The guardian sites offer blueprints for a vessel of some kind, maybe blueprints for sentinels, which would probably, tactically be used against thargoid swarms.

I'm an explorer for peace thru and thru but since 3.0 dropped there seems to be a rise in activity from thargoids. FDev have suggested that they are heading towards Sol. The new game content is suggestive of an incoming war... Even the scavengers become hostile without cause. I used to believe that peace could be sought with the thargoids but that dream has since passed and although they a quite passive now, there recent attacks suggest some other agenda and were just in the way.

Good to see you here cmdr!

Agreed, and I said much the same earlier in the thread.

The other thing we need to account for is that this might be a feint, either to draw our attention to these systems instead of the real target in this wave, or to condition us into a response pattern ready for them to take advantage of in a future wave.

Edit - That, and how can we use this all to our long term advantage?

I think it’s more important to take note that we’re getting attacked by Guardian tech and the big narrative thrust deals with Ram Tah and the Guardians. I think we’re going to be fighting a two front war here pretty soon.

Interesting that you say that as my first thought on guardian behaviour was defensive and thargoid behaviour is passive aggressive. I thought that the guardian's went extinct a long time ago?

Aegis have gotten to you too ;)

Indeed, that is a very good point to note. It could just be a general defense mechanism, but... I'm not so sure.

Maybe there was a purpose for arming and building defensive capabilities in Colonia? Being so far away it may seem like it is irrelevant, however, game mechanics dictate "expect the unexpected"

Seems like a good time to bring up the matter of what the 'they' were that found Jacques out there in the black after the UAs sang.

As far as we know they did but as we’ve seen their tech, including autonomous defenses, are still working. The AI that wiped them out may still be “alive” but dormant somewhere. Or maybe they’re already aware of us and our actions have triggered this initial defense of the ruins, with the possibility of escalation as we continue to pillage the sites.

Could be that the Thargoids are worried we’re going to poke a sleeping giant, not realizing their efforts to stop us has only fueled our interest in Guardian tech.

Once the Thargoids have been dealt with, I fear the AIs that destroyed the Guardians will be waiting in the wings

That makes perfect sense to me. All we have to do is play along and watch the story unfold 😁

I have a hunch, that every so often these Eagle Eye stations will point to a new set of thargoid sites to investigate. They may be a mechanism to provide ongoing early warnings.

Then we'll take the next one and the one after that! At this point our only ability to "apply violence" to the Thargoids is simply destroying their ships.
We're not waging war... we're comiting Genocide!
War implies conquest and occupation, we're simply killing their ships to apply an economical pressure to an economy we know very little about.

Some could call this a war of attrition but "Are we to be two immortals locked in an epic battle until Judgment Day and trumpets sound?"
