Newcomer / Intro New to me, NPC behavior.

I was doing a run to the raw materials trader. I always honk the systems that I pass through. I found a named system that had 3 planets that had bio signature's. 3,4,5 they were unmapped and not stepped on. I thought wow how in the middle of the bubble is this possible. So I mapped the 5 signal planet and approached the planet to land. When I was about to land an anaconda? Python? flew over and shot missiles at me without target my ship? It looked like flares and my ship didn't say I was under attack. I fly an under shielded, unarmed exploration ship so I made a quick jump and was out of there. I think it was kind of cool a little excitement to a materials run. Has anybody had this happen? What would have happened if I had stuck around?

I take it you played in solo?

The "under attack" voice warning only happens if you're hit. Presumably the missiles... missed.
Sometimes you can get hit by a stray bit of fire intended for someone else and it says "under attack" but you're not targeted. It's pretty unintelligent.

Seems to be a major theme in this universe... Almost as if the development of computer technology got stuck somewhere along the road...
I do very little lore in the game but I seem to remember something about us having difficulties with AI in the past* so systems are restricted nowadays to avoid a repetition.

*I don’t think it was Butlerian Jihad levels of difficulty and certainly not Guardian levels.

As much as it is understandable, I feel like they slightly overdid it, because this doesn't feel like a ban of sorts, more like a technology development freeze on a level that is quite a bit lower than the computing power needed to run AI.
Though it isn't the computing power alone that is lacking.

At one point given the slot size needed for them I did think that docking computers where direct developments of Babbage’s Difference and Analogue engines and the size was needed for all the cogs and cams.

That would explain a lot.

Sometimes, I wish there was a second "like" button...

Were you playing in open mode? It could have been a ganker embarking on their nefarious career, some missiles are unguided and need a curtain amount of "Kentucky Windage" to find their mark.
