I switched powers after doing the weeky assignments. My new power's signal sources for (power wreckage, for life pods) is a nightmare. My old power no ships arrived, my new power has the ships that kill me very quickly. They disable engines and FSD and destory your modules fast.

You have two ways:
- rational - choosing by rewards, modules queue and profits
- rpg-based - choosing by ethos, ideas, personal history and just who do you like the most
Li Yung-Rui, becasue since my first contact with Powers he is the most paceful in my opinion and I am pacifist, and from all dictators I like technocrates the most
So, in fact I choose by ethos rather than profits for me. Of couse 100% exploraion data (We'll see after the patch) is nice too even if I preffer exobiology.
And I like his discounts, I used his systems a lot before acces to shinrarta and probably I will be back to his systems again, because ShinDez is lees fun than looking for modules

You'll be rewarded with a grand total of 760 merits for the busywork on your first weekly todo list (consisting of 5 different, but equally menial assignments like haul something, earn some bounties, rescue a couple of escape pods, etc etc).
Then you'll only need to collect 246240 more merits before you can lay your hands on the first powerplay module.
They really seem to have elevated module shopping grind to another level.
It will be a worthy competitor to Guardian unlocks and on-foot engineering, most probably.
Well, I'm almost at Hutton Orbital to get the 12 rare goods for one of the tasks, then I'll see about shadowing the PoPo to get the bounties
Please consider Pranav Antal. Our ethos is that we're into improving the human condition by sharing our technology with our supporters, so basically like LYR but without the profit motive. As such we're independent of the major super powers. Our perks are currently under review by FDev, so I hope they don't nerf them into the ground, but if you like exobiology and trading in high tech goods, we're gonna be the best for you.

1) Can the commodities be mined anywhere and then sold in the territory for the +50% increase in profits?
2) Do the commodities need to by mined by the cmdr, or can the be bought & sold?

You absolutely shared your technology (enforcer cannons) with my alt account about a week ago.
Luckily this happened before PPV2, so I did not have to collect 250000 merits. I only had to kill 25 NPCs in accordance with the ethos of improving human condition.
As far as I know ...
1) yes, provided the station you are selling them to buys them in the commodity market. If you try to take a mission to get ore, it won't generate the mission if you already have the ore in your cargo hold (yeah, I know)
2) bought commodities is just normal trading, it's only different if it's a mission. Some missions want you to pick up the commodity, and some won't generate a mission if you already have the commodity.
Other than that, just selling something (be it commodities or data) should get you the merits (and credits) if you sell it at the right station (check that they want what you're selling for powerplay)
But where is the fun in that???

Edit: I want to point out that you need to be sure to "sell" them to the power contact not the normal salvage & rescue guy.

All three types I've picked up count
It's only 300,000ish credits, go to a high RES and get the last few hits on something Dropship sized or above and you should be able to do it in one.

In a similar boat, but I really don't like any of the PP candidates. The ones that reward my gameplay I especially don't like. Having every candidate offer the same bonuses as well as the modules would be a solution for us fence-sitters.
