New Trading Tool - Cmdr's Log v1.1!

I was tempted to grab something like the Dangerous Trading tool, but it felt so much like cheating, so I am glad I waited. I was almost about to start using the Trading Data template sheets from the Pilots Guide.

I used to use Slopey's BPC which worked really well for maximising profit but it felt a lot like cheating, or at least like turning the game into a spreadsheet. I find Arch's program works very well beside this "Trading Bible", the program for better accuracy in places you've previously been, and the "bible" for educated guesses with new places.

The notes dialog now has Snippets.

Nice idea... i look forward to playing with it.

Interested in starting to use this tool. Slopey's tool is great and all but I find the idea of me putting in the time to create up to date prices for where I am playing being used by other lazy pilots annoying.

Plus shared market info kills the trade runs which YOU personally might find.

Interested to know if anyone has been making any really decent profits using this tool? i.e 600-700+ pt profit?

Looks really nice and simple to use. An android app of this would be AMAZING. Literally it'd be so cool to just have the app open at same time, the quick data entry feature you added helps out a lot though.

One minor request, could we have a "Mark all current" as well as being able to mark individual prices as current?

Cheers,

RM

You know you can just highlight everything, then press "make current" right? Just click the first one, hold shift, then click the last one, then click the button.

Anyone know if the Supply/Demand ever flips for a station? I know the levels may go from High to Medium and Low or vice versa - but will a certain demand/supply ever disappear entirely or say go from Demand to Supply?
You would think apart from level, the commodities a certain station/planet trades in would be static.

You guys making profits using this?
Definitely.

Yes, you can do without it by using the in-game Commodity Browser and select system to see which commodities are "Exported to" and "Imported by" said system, then cross-reference with Galactic Average to estimate the profit.

Thing is however: The Market Data is erroneous and incomplete, ie. some commodites will be listed as "Imported by" a system, but when you arrive you discover they aren't in fact (may even be the quite opposite). Other commodites aren't even listed even though they might be in High Demand at the system.

So you end up writing this missing info on scraps of paper - or you install Cmdr's Log and let it help you out. This program will match demands with supply regardless of missing info in Market Data. This greatly raises the profit margin.

Great app. I have been considering writing one myself, but this fits the bill.

I'd like to make a suggestion that will make filling in the values much quicker.

Map a row of 3 keys e.g. 7,8,9 on the number pad to low, med and high supply, 4,5,6 to low, med and high demand and 1,2,3 to none, illegal, not set. You can then scroll down the list and choose the value without having to constantly move the mouse.

Having the possibility to note availability in a visited station of certain ship types and outfitting would be a nice extra.

Greetz

Yes I've seen this happen numerous times. It makes sense where a low supply has been exhausted, and vice versa.

Theoretically it can... if a bunch of pilots deliver massive amounts of one commodity to a station in a short time, you can take it from demand to supply, but it -should- revert as delivery dries up and it's consumed or shipped out elsewhere

In short, yes, this will HELP you to make a profit, but unlike the others it won't make it FOR you. There's no argument that you will make more if you use one of the crowd-sourced, shared data type tools and if that's your cup of whatever then go for it. Cmdr's is for people who feel those other tools are like flying a spreadsheet instead of a spaceship, who want to do the thinking for themselves, and who prefer to make their own decisions than make every last credit.

Yes it does. Plenty of people have reported seeing it happen - just read some of the many 'trading is broken' threads.

Great tool. can you make the window re-sizable by using the mouse to drag etc, so that we can set it to the size we need? and if possible have an import/export option?

Love the snippets, nice addition.

Is it possible to make scrolling up through the systems/stations active so you select the data for highlighted system/station as you scroll to it with the cursor keys?

and this :)

This thing keeps getting better. Thanks for the effort you put into this, CMDR, it's even more useful with the snippets. I easily set up some data lists for useful quick-fill details.
