Very pretty but I don't understand the hype. Horrid Level of Details problems.

...I don't understand the hype.
Very pretty...
Would you be as impressed after the 100th planet? Unless there's *something* else to it, this looks like a shallow game.
If I were them I would be looking at Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen for ideas.
Not sure what they'd get from ED to be honest.
The word epic comes to mind after watching the new NMS trailer. I'm more excited about that than I am Elite Dangerous. It just looks like everything ED should have been but isn't. Launching from that ship and then entering the atmosphere and landing at that station looks amazing, not to mention how alive and bustling it all seems..... Which ED is severely lacking.
NMS is the space sim to beat now.
I'm not saying that to be nasty to ED, but elite is a niche title within a niche genre
Reminds me of that old MDK game back in the 90's for some reason.
It does look cartoony, but nevertheless it gives me goosebumps and tickles my explorer bone. I love the strangeness of these worlds in NMS's trailers. They have great procedural creature generation. They really hit the nail on the head with their pg system.
If FD, with their graphics, can do something similar I would be a very, very happy gamer.
I do not like these small NMS planets and their paper thin atmospheres. It is so unrealistic that I makes me unable to suspend disbelief. It diminishes immersion for me. But perhaps I could get used to it.
This is the proper version of the new trailer:
