New trailer for No Mans Sky..

Would you be as impressed after the 100th planet? Unless there's *something* else to it, this looks like a shallow game.

If I were them I would be looking at Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen for ideas.

Not sure what they'd get from ED to be honest.

I'm not saying that to be nasty to ED, but elite is a niche title within a niche genre... NMS would hold its hands up and joyfully admit it's a mass market title, so concerns like atmospheric depth and solar system realism wouldn't really be top of their list. Anyway, it has pretty much all the same features but approached from a sci-fantasy point of view rather than elite's hard-sci approach.

Big difference is elite's multiplayer and how well NMS's 'emergent' gameplay works. If the latter doesn't pan out then that really could be a problem for NMS...

Not really been following SC so couldn't comment about that title.

The word epic comes to mind after watching the new NMS trailer. I'm more excited about that than I am Elite Dangerous. It just looks like everything ED should have been but isn't. Launching from that ship and then entering the atmosphere and landing at that station looks amazing, not to mention how alive and bustling it all seems..... Which ED is severely lacking.

NMS is the space sim to beat now.

Well...how about some of the inspiration for the game in the first place? ;)

(The original Elite from 1984 that is....)

Check the first part of this video:

Couldn't agree more. Looks incredible.

Surely it shouldn't be. The original game was a huge success with cinema ads, lavish packaging, conversions to every system etc... When I played it as a kid I felt like Han Solo. Everybody likes Han Solo. He isn't a niche thing. And he'll be even less of a niche thing this time next year.

It looks fantastic and I have to buy it (even if I have to buy an additional PS4), repeating myself here.
A little and tiny thing is missing - the gameplay !
I don´t expect it to happen even in mid 2015. They have to put it out anyway (SONY) so they will.
As well as not expecting planet landings in ELITE anytime in 2015.

Cheers,
Robin

Looks decent but the graphics are a bit too cartoony for my tastes. I'd like to see something a bit more gritty and "real" for Elite Dangerous.

So with the thread moving away from the beautiful procedurally generated planet surfaces to omgz I need this..
Other than the pretty planet surfaces, what else is there?
How good does it look?

I hope that Elite Dangerous will one day have amazing diverse planet surfaces that I can explore.. but I've yet to see it.
I hope that Star Citizen will have a large enough universe that it feels like I'm in space not in an enclosed zone.. but I've yet to see it.
Likewise, I hope that No Man's Sky will have great gameplay and exciting space combat... but I've yet to see it.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that none of these games will launch with every aspect delivered to a high level of polish - and there's nothing I'm seeing in SC or No Man's Sky that contradicts that. Hopefully they'll all get there in time though as all three look great in their own way.

It feels very small which such quick transitions. Some of it is lovely. Be interesting to see what actually happens in the game.

Not interested in this game at all at the moment.
It does look pretty, definitely, but I'm afraid it might be going the Starbound way, as 'procedural' does not necessarily equal 'interesting content'.
ED suffers a bit from that as well.

Hope I'm proven wrong though!

It does look cartoony, but nevertheless it gives me goosebumps and tickles my explorer bone. I love the strangeness of these worlds in NMS's trailers. They have great procedural creature generation. They really hit the nail on the head with their pg system.

If FD, with their graphics, can do something similar I would be a very, very happy gamer.

I do not like these small NMS planets and their paper thin atmospheres. It is so unrealistic that I makes me unable to suspend disbelief. It diminishes immersion for me. But perhaps I could get used to it.

This is the proper version of the new trailer:

It does look amazing. Oceans, forests, space battles, aliens..... It makes me wonder what on earth FD have been doing all this time.
