New Update Ideas for Elite Dangerous Odyssey

The Elite Dangerous Community has lots of ideas that would be kool for the game. I'm starting this thread in hopes that Frontier Developments sees some ideas that could be worth adding to the game as content whether it's a new vehicle/ship/personal gear or some thinking outside of the box ideas that would add extra value to the game. Since Frontier Developments is now paying attention to the game its worth a shot.

I just watched ATLAS starring Jennifer Lopez on Netflix. I was wondering Frontier, could we get maybe a mech type vehicle that we can transport via the vehicle hangers for our ship? Could that also be engineered and used in a settlement or xeno conflict zones or be used in exploration and xeno biology? This is one of the many ideas I have for Elite Dangerous.

There is an entire subforum called "Suggestions" that FDev already ignores. No need for a thread.
I don’t care… I’m started this tread and since FDEV is looking to increase their revenue for this game let’s be positive and make suggestions. You never know maybe an idea or two gets considered. If so then it’s a win. Don’t be a party pooper. IMO Odyssey is great we just need more content added to the game. Elite Dangerous Odyssey has the potential to be the greatest space sim ever!!! Let’s go!

Another idea I’ve had for a long time. MEGASHIPS. Frontier in the future, sometime, could a player or squad purchase of Megaships make it to the game (personally I prefer player purchase but that’s just me). There’s players, including me, have mega credits in the game and so much so that credit earnings means nothing anymore. A megaship would change all of that.

MEGASHIP IDEA THAT PUT ODYSSEY TO USE:
1. Purchase of a megaship that can hold a few regular ships.
2. Make it that we can outfit22 the weapons and choice of internal security for the ship.
3. Have critical systems inside the ship which could be damaged by an onboard assault.
4. Make it that when attacked the megaship could be boarded similar to the old StarWars Battlefront 2 game from 2002 where we can fly onto the ship and engage in battle or somehow dock or land on a part of the ship during a fight and you use your Maverick suite to cut an access hatch of some kind so you can board the ship and engage in battle.
5. Carry out espionage missions that includes stealing items or information from the player owned megashilp.
6. Make it that it’s possible to severely damage or destroy the megaship in either a direct attack or through some sort of secret type of mission that is unsuspecting to the ships owners.
7. Of course much like fleet carriers there would need to be a management system for maintaining such a vessel.
8. Hire personnel like you do for fleet carriers but this time. Interact with the of the personnel regarding upkeep of the vessel and any security concerns regarding the ship and missions associated with use of the ship.
9. Just like fleet carriers have external and internal skins for the ship to be purchased using ARX.
10. Allow us the players the option to enter a conflict zone or a resource extraction site with this mega ship. For a resource extraction site the ship could be used to provide security for a group of players during mining.
11. On the initial purchase of the ship give us the option to either purchase the ship fully finished or give us the option to put in a purchase contract for the ship but allow us to provide the materials needed by the ship builder build the ship making it cheaper to purchase.


If what I wrote above was in the game it would motivate me to earn more money in game. I have billions like a lot of other players do but I want to buy something like this in game. Hope this suggestion would make it to the game some day or maybe an idea to rework fleet carrier.
 
Another idea I’ve had for a long time. MEGASHIPS.
Feels like Eve and Rust. However this is clashing with "solo mode".
Also, take a look on that 2:
1. Rust has a speed- game servers operate on days and weeks, than game is restarted.
2. Eve is more similar to this idea, but, it has full simulation of the economy. Which puts limits.

In the long game (unlike Rust) and without economy (unlike Eve) such a ships in the Elite will be destroyed faster by the players than you can make credits to buy new one.
Also there is another problem, what happens to my megaship if I'm in the Void for the couple real years ? (like I do now).

Mechs as in giant semi robotic fighting vehicles that tower above any cover and stagger about on two legs and even with the power of a scriptwriter can only just win a fight after horrendous losses on their side.

This isn’t anime so hopefully no we can’t.
 
I'm sorry but I too watched Jay Lo in Atlas. After this trauma I cannot allow consideration of Jay Lo being implemented into odyssey.
As for megaships.
Powerplay 2.0 will have something similar. Just not owned by a cmdr, but by a superpower like the federation, empire, alliance etc.

I'd like a few QoL changes, like for example:

  • A button to purchase/sell limpets with the Refuel, Repair, Rearm. You need to go through 3 menus before you can purchase or sell them, why?
  • In the navigation panel your FC should still be displayed even if you turn the Fleet Carrier option off. Even if it's a different color than the 100 others cluttering the panel it's still a very long, boring list to go through.
  • An option to toggle supercruise assist. Assigning it to a button would be so much better than what we currently have to do.
  • More than 200 stored modules. Seriously, there's ~40 ships in the game, 200 modules is not enough.
  • Refueling the carrier with Tritium from the menu. The tritium is already sitting in my carrier, why do I need to put it back in my ship and then donate it back to the carrier?

I could keep going on and on but these are one of the simplest things they could do that would dramatically improve the gameplay without adding any new features to the game.

NPC character hire:

Currently we are allowed to hire an npc at different levels of experience to fly our ship launch fighters. This needs to be updated so that they are a fully functioning npc that we can interact, at any location with their fully developed avatar, that can help us on land missions, on foot or our SRVs, and in space by using one of our ships or the ability for that character to buy his own ship with their money they earn off of you. An avenue to engineer their ship can also be done.

The ability to hire up to 4 different npc crewman should be allowed. With that idea in mind the payment to these npc characters should be reworked. Instead of taking a cut of our profits across the board, which I never agreed with, they should be on a negotiated payment of either weekly payment or per job basis with both payment structure negotiated with that npc with the added function of that npc wanting the renegotiate their payment when the go up in rank. Speaking of ranks the npcs should be ranked just like commander ranks for combat, trade, exploration, exobiology, and mercenary. With payment term being negotiated the added possibility of that npc to refuse work from you and walk away should be added and the function of said npc to actually turn against you if they see you are not paying them enough if they continue to see they are helping you make millions compared to what they are getting which should happen if the npc is approaching higher ranks status across the board so careful management of their payment shoykd be considsred. With that in mind npc character traits should be considered and be factored when hiring these npcs.

This,would be a welcome addition to Elite imo.

Planetary Cities:

This needs to be included in Elite Dangerous Odyssey. I don’t have to write a long diatribe on this. Star Citizen has cities. We should also have cities. Frontier… you don’t have to develop a whole slew of cities for the entire galaxy at once. Just pick a system and plop a city in a new atmospheric planetary body or replace an existing large base somewhere with a city instead and make up some of excuse that the base expanded to a city. We need cities!
