New vive user looking for some assistance

So I've finally caved in and bought a vive (much to my wife's consternation!), and initially I'm pleased with it but I'm having a problem with head juddering.

I apologise in advance because I'm sure there are threads out there dealing with this, but my search has been throwing up results for the DK2, CV1, solutions that are months old... So I hope the community doesn't mind me coming on here, creating another thread and asking for help?

I've tried turning down settings to VR low but this doesn't do anything, my frame rate seems absolutely fine even on high settings - it's just the head juddering issue.
I've read somewhere that turning down supersampling within the game can help, but I can't even see where to turn it down from the in game menus?!

I'm running an i7-3770k 3.5GHz with an AMD R9 390

Welcome onboard Commander. I'm not very familiar with AMD, but isn't the R9 390 below recommended spec for VR?

Are you getting judder everywhere, or only in stations, RES and planets?

You can expand the graphics menu (hit the + button) for extra options. Try turning everything down.

What does the Steam VR performance test tell you?:

I was running it on a 290, and it mostly worked (kindof) albeit with juddering.

The biggest problem is that steamVR does not currently support asynchronous reprojection with AMD cards. A recent AMD driver update has added an API for this, but steamVR hasn't yet updated to support it. (this feature makes a *massive* difference in ED).

In the meantime - I think there's a thread on this board with suggested settings to improve performance - it's worth trying that stuff.

Thanks for the replies, I took the vr test before I got the vive and i'm mid table green.

I found the other thread and will have a tinker tomorrow, the wife is home now and trying to stay in her good books for a while lol.

One issue I had with Elite I did not have with other games was the view in the headset would be pulled down at the right side. It looked judder like and I tracked it down to a glass picture on the wall beside and above me. The IR light was being reflected in the glass and made it look like the headset was moving, when it wasn't.

Are your base stations securely mounted and cannot move? Wobbly stations will cause weird motion as well.

As for the missus, get hold of theBlu and Job Simulator and give her a go. My wife got onside pretty quick once she saw the Blue Whale up close and spent an hour as a short order cook. Now she invites her friends over to play on it.
