Considering that people got pretty upset over the inclusion of the Arctic Wolf and Dingo in the Arctic Pack and Australia Pack respectively, I honestly don't think that an entire pack dedicated to largely similar canines is wise.

A canine pack could be interesting with some smaller species (Fennec Foxes, Raccoon Dogs etc.) though.

I would love a canines pack! Maned wolves, Ethiopean wolves, and dholes are amazing. Coyotes are super underappreciated, just like singing dogs. I'd like to include jackals too, though. And even though people would hate another wolf... the Tibetan wolf is cool with its thick neck ruff.

There's probably not a single animal family I have more interest in than canines, but I think if they do this, it should be a ways off. They really need to tackle packs with a variety animals with either location or biome themes first, IMO. After that, small packs with a handful of animals all from one family, sure why not. It's another way to theme packs.

Honestly, I really wanted the Maned Wolf in the South America pack (and people seem to really want the Fennec Fox) but there's literally a dozen packs I'd prefer over this with all due respect.

As someone who was upset over both of those, I have no objection to a canine pack that includes different species.

On the presented list, however, the only one I think I would want would be the maned wolf. I like the Ethiopian wolf, but there aren't any in captivity, and while that isn't a requirement for inclusion it does hurt its chances. The dhole is also an interesting animal, but behaviour-wise it is pretty similar to the three wolves we already have and the African wild dog.

For me, a good well-rounded list would include:

- Maned wolf.
- Arctic fox (which should have been in the Arctic Pack).
- Japanese raccoon dog (wonderfully weird, and I'd love to build a little Japanese section in a zoo).
- Fennec fox.

I was tempted to include the bush dog rather than the fennec fox, because the bush dog is so bizarre.

Tbh the only animal I would like from those in the original post is the maned wolf, since it is very different from all the canines we have now. Would also like to see arctic fox and more importantly fennec fox, since bulding enclosures for them would be awesome, it could fill the small enclosure animal role pretty well.

I am a dog person all the way, but all other options are too similar to wolf, so for now, I think we are good (but still need foxes).

Like if we didn't have already enough subspecies of feral dogs...

About Ethiopian wolves, they don't exist in any zoo (and if they haver ever existed, they were very rare), it would be as strange as having Javan rhino or mountain gorilla.
Maned wolf is the only one in that list I would really like... Or almost any kind of fox, including bush or raccoon dogs.
I would have preferred having coyote or dhole instead of the dingo, but in the current situation not anymore, it would feel extremely redundant.

I think that if many people got upset was because for an Artic/Australian pack there were much more interesting species to include rather than those canines, but that doesn't mean that people don't want more canines. The problem is that releasing a pack focused on a region and with few animals on it, the selection of the animals can cause many complains because many interesting animals will be out of the pack and this problem gets even worse with packs focused on regions with a rich and diverse fauna.

But if you release a pack only focused on an order or family you have a more reduced list of key animals to include.I disliked the inclusion of the tundra wolf and specially the dingo but not because I don't like them, just because I think that there were better candidates for those packs. On the other side, I would have been happy to see them on a canids pack along with other missing canids like foxes, maned wolves, etc...

Don't think it's many people - I think a few people being very vocal gave their preference for other animals.
Yeah, the main issue would be the small selection of a animals for a large area.

Personally I think the dingo was a good addition. If they gave me an unannounced 5-10 seconds to name some iconic animals for Australia: Kangaroo, Koala, Crocodile and Dingo would be the first ones.
Kangaroo and Koala for the obvious reasons, Crocodile based on Crocodile Dundee moves and Steve Irwin, and Dingo for the "Dingo ate my ......" comment.

Packs like this would be a great idea after geographic and maybe biome/habitat based DLCs.

I would also be more inclined to go for slightly more variety in the pack. I would cut the singing dog as it doesn’t differ greatly from the dingo and the Ethiopian wolf would definitely need to go for me as it isn’t found in captivity.

My suggestions based on variety and addressing gaps in existing DLCs would be

  • Maned wolf
  • Arctic fox
  • Raccoon dog
  • Dhole

This is on the basis that a fennec fox would already have featured in a desert or Africa DLC.

If we're assuming that, then for me it's the bush dog. The maned wolf, Arctic fox, raccoon dog, and bush dog are all very four unique dogs with various specialised behaviours and morphologies.

I wouldn’t mind Fox, maned wolves, or raccoon dogs as their unique enough to warrant a inclusion in game. Same could be said for spectacled, sun, and sloth for bears imo.
