Newsletter #30 now out.

Thank you FD! The entire newsletter is full of superb info. Singleplayer, law enforcement, station defenses, communications, matchmaking, decals... AND VIPERS!(maybe) The GalNet was a great read. Hope to see more of them in future newsletters, as well as in game some day.

[edit] Hmm, just noticed in the comm pic that CMDR Augustine does not have a hollow blip on the radar.

I like the transmission part of the newsletter...and that our forum is mentioned of course :)
...and the decals...and communication coming to beta...and :D

Single Player could facilitate griefing

Hopefully Frontier has chosen to keep pilots from single-player games from joining the multi-player online game. It would be far too easy for people to make tons of money in single player, and then utilize that wealth in multi-player just to be a nuisance.

Good spot, transponders in, or do we have CMDR NPC too?

Also, what ship is that?

pI think they may have made all ships addressable as CMDR - both PC and AI and removed the hollow indicators in order to remove (or at least reduce) player priority targeting.

Of course, learning the names of all the NPC's will make it easier to prioritise real players.

Of course, hopefully they have all the bought NPC names introduced and randomized by now, so it'll be a case of learning player names instead. There's quite a few of those :D

I could be very wrong though.

Newsletter #30 is nice and all but there's a serious lack of premium beta news! Dont tell me we'll barely see changes from PB2 to B1 ?

Why would there be any major PB2 changes?

It's stable and it mostly works. It makes no sense to change this code at this stage, when all development effort is needed for the next release.

Erm, because there's nothing new in all those things, what's to discuss? We've been waiting for them forever, further discussion will take place once we've played with them. The so called decals are new.

Yeah, I deleted my post.

I'm not bothered one iota about decals... the rest is of far more importance (and new).

Although in fairness, I can't see why there's nothing to discuss about grouping, comms, single player, and the criminality rules being implemented & what that will do to the dynamic of the game currently.

My thoughts about decals.

First of all, I can see some of Elite: Dangerous roots in it, because some ships in Frontier: Elite II and Frontier: First Encounters were rather... trippy. So one could say that weirdly painted vessels are part of the canon lore. Also if you read the Elite novels, the styles and tastes of people have become a bit more extreme than what they are now.

As for the flags, I'm "meh" about them. I can see them for pilots who are proud of their heritage, but would not complain if Frontier decides in the end not to implement them.

Well the DDF is already there and such. Discussions are sure to flare up once we get to see what's written in the DDF in moving pictures, and in color. But if a certain point vexes/excites you, why don't you just bring it up?

For me, most of the stuff in the newsletter was 1:1 what I read (and agree with) in the DDF. Can't wait to get grouping in so I can get my friends into my instances.

Doubtless there will be in-game lore to explain the use of C21st national flag designs ;)
Yes, I am somewhat bothered by them - very likely to break immersion if they are implemented.

And, if they are, I will require the Finnish flag as well. And the Scandinavian Union Flag (artistic license allowed). And the Wolfwood coat of arms... and...

By the GODS man!

My poor poor eyes! Thats it! Next time I see you at port, abducted and tied to the exhaust vents of the ship before take off you will be! You WILL FEEL like that image there sir! YES, yes you will !

:p

haha... Tinman made me do it.

Click on it, and it calms down... a bit. :D

You mean the Union Flag? :p

Runs away and hides in his Fortress of Pedantry

Bit of a grey one this. Some sources declare it doesn't matter, some say it's a naval tradition. Mostly it's considered a Union Flag unless it's being flown on a ship. With a loose enough definition of 'flown' it could indeed be a Union Jack here. ;)

I call it a Union Jack all the time, personally.

I want two particular custom paint jobs. One in British Racing Green and another completely Chrome.

And... SINGLE PLAYER!

I will now start enjoying this game.

Cheers,

Drew.
